I'm already missing mangoes and unfortunately really don't care for dates much. In the US that leaves bananas in the winter for a staple. I'd love to hear some ideas on tastier ways to get those bananas down!
Please share your favorite bananas recipes/ideas here. I need could use some inspiration.
Thanks so much!
hey audrey! did u freeze any berries this summer? i love banana/fig (dried)/and strawberry or whatever berry smoothies....best of luck!!
If you blend them with juice (home-squeezed or storebought unsweetened, if you have to), you have an almost infinite variety of quick-to-make flavour combinations!
Also banana ice cream (made in Vitamix, food processor or regular blender) with blended berries as topping ...
Alicia Grant has a great-looking recipe on her YouTube channel, rawsynergytv, for a raw "porridge" with bananas, apples and dates.
I take sliced bananas in a bowl and make banana milk or date milk and pour over it. It feels like old times eating morning cereal.
This might not be your cup of tea but for me eating one bite of date with two bites of banana makes a great meal. I also drink a big glass of water with my meal, it's most enjoyable! :)
Banana cereal!!!!! Why didn't I think of that?
That is so my morning routine- in an effort to try to eat more whole foods and less smoothies, I weaned myself by pouring a little, tiny smoothie over bananas or bananas and some other fruit, usually $4 a little container of strawberries (!) (winter prices). I never tire of it, though I wonder, every time I eat it, when it will become boring. It is my power meal, over 1,000 calories- I love it! Sometime I let the bananas sit in the bit of smoothie, for a different texture. :)
Zahidi taste like Cap'n Crunch
I am tryin' that! :D That's those peanut butter dates, right?
Oh Zahidi are so good! They really do taste like Cap'n Crunch!
I tried them for the first time in Australia and I must have eaten 50 in one sitting. I couldn't stop!
Oh wow! Where do you get the Zahidi dates? I have to try those!
I'm on day 7 of banana island and I really didn't like them before, but I'm finding myself loving them more each day now. They're really yummy just blended with either a little water so they're a creamy whip, or lots so they're more like a milkshake. Banana icecream is also really nice.
For mixed banana ideas, fresh bananas mixed with frozen mango(just a little bit if it is expensive) is really nice. I'm told banana persimmon smoothies are really amazing too.
My old favorite was just bananas wrapped in romaine lettuce leaves, or chopped into a bowl of baby spinach.
Dates can also be really nice added to a smoothie, just with apples, or apples and a little frozen fruit.
Where do you live in the U.S.? I absolutely adore mangoes and am still able to get the tommy atkins variety from the large grocery chain store nearby. Surprisingly they offer another delicious kind which must have just came into season called nam doc mai. But even still, a lot of stores will offer frozen mango or frozen berries which can really add variety to smoothies :)
You are so lucky! I'm in Texas. I bought a couple of mangoes last week. They were stringy and had no flavor and a weird color. Definitely not edible.
I like making a banana smoothie with a piece of ginger.
