Mostly GMO's are killing them, I think, but this is good. Its the last animal product I'm giving up as well! <3 Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts!
Insects are not animals, they are insects, just like fungus are not plants, and slime and mold are also a Kingdom of their own. I have no point to make other than educating you, just as if you called a tuna a mammal, or a dolphin a fish.
rock, you need to take a closer look at taxonomy and markvegan has provided you with the correct classifications for proper education. you seem to be confusing kingdom with class.
you may also want to take a good look at markvegan's excellent post on rights of insects here:
insects are animals by taxonomy. here's further explanation:
The animal kingdom is divided in a number of groups called "phyla" (singular: phylum). Examples of phyla are:
Each phylum is subdivided in classes, for example the class Hexapoda (= insects). Classes are subdivided into orders, for example the order Coleoptera (= beetles). Orders are divided into families, families into genera (singular: genus), and genera are divided into species (See Table 1). Within the class Hexapoda there are over 750,000 different species of insects.
prad nice post! good to see you are still writing for the cause ;)
Wow, definitely some good information. Thanks Harley!
I stand corrected, did too limited reading on subject. Have read more, and expanded my knowlege. Insects "animals".
that's great rock!
taxonomy is an interesting and even evolving topic (for instance, the whole clades perspective). pretty neat stuff! i've enjoyed talking with robert (the humane hominid on 30bad) about all this in the past. robert's our resident paleontologist. :)
thanks for the info!
