Hi, I'm pretty much fully raw at the moment. I have this problem when I pick and eat wild blackberries- I often (though not always) get watery stools or even diarrhea. I don't get this problem with other fruit. I was wondering why.
My possible theories-
1. Some of the fruit is slightly unripe. I generally spit these out, but perhaps a small amount of the juice is enough to cause fermentation in the stomach?
2. I am accidentally eating small amounts of fungus on some of the fruit?
3. The fruit has taken on some toxic metals from the soil? (not sure if this is possible or not. But the fruit is growing on wasteland)
4. the fruit is wild and organic and it is flushing out some of the toxins from conventionally grown fruit? I doubt this, but I thought I'd mention it as a possibility.
It's a dramatic reaction of expulsion, so I know something is up. I wonder if anyone has any knowledge or experience of how to prevent it? It doesn't happen with other organic fruits, or when picking and eating wild apples. Cheers!
Straight offa tha bush, yeah! You're right, a wash would be a good idea. I'll take a bowl of water with me next time.
probably eating a lot of worms then.. when a dog was on holiday here i picked blackberries while i was in the forest while the dog was everywhere and nowhere.. at home i put them in a bowl of water and several worms fat and thin ones came out while i thought i picked quality berries that didn't look like anything had touched them..
That sounds likely. Would worms cause the diarrhea do you think? I try to check each berry, but my eyesight isn't brilliant so I could certainly have missed a few worms.
I'll definitely take a bowl of water with me next time, I don't like the idea of eating worms at all! Thanks for yr help.
