30 Bananas a Day!

I asked the company and was pleased to learn that they are only sun-dried. These are the Whole Foods brand organic Medjool dates, sold in clear plastic containers in the refrigerated section. They are not pitted. Here is a document and picture they sent me:

Processing of organic medjool dates.

Organic medjool dates usually dry down and mature on the palm tree. The ripen date are harvested by hand on to trays. Trays are brought into packing facility and sorted in the pregrade room. Sometimes there will be additional minimal drying required and that is done on food grade trays in the sun for 1 to 4 days. Pack ready dates go to the grading room for packing. The dates are passed across a shaker table washed with filtered water and dried in-between terry cloth towels for cleaning. The dates proceed from the shaker to the grading belts, sorted by hand according to grade standards and packed into boxes. Boxes are inspected, weighed, marked with grade and numbered with a pallet number. Pallet numbers are recorded in to the Inventory Pallet Numbers Log.

Shipments are made on inspected trucks/containers with notation of inspection on the bill of lading

Palletized product is stored at 0 degrees F.

7,000 to 25,000 lb. is processed per day.

Harvest and packing begin approximately Sept 1.finishes 1st week of Dec.

Well, shoot, I'm told that an 11 pound case of these dates will cost me 80 dollars! If I recall, I got 30 pounds of superior dates from the date people for about 45 dollars including shipping. But last I heard they were closed for the season. I guess I'll have to do some more shopping.
