30 Bananas a Day!

Hello to all of you runners, walkers and whoever else may wear these. I am wanting to order a pair however I am unsure which ones to go for. Out of the classic, sprint and KSO which would you recommend for all-of-the-time use but also for running. Also, which are the easiest to break-in? I tend to turn my back to shoes that rub too much and cause blisters...

In regards to the classics, do they ever fall off? Do the straps on the sprint irritate? Are the KSO's hot and claustrophobic?

Do I need to wear socks? If so, which are the best to get?

Thanks :)

Vibrams are supposed to be really good yeah! I've heard good things :)

Not sure which precise ones to get but.. just wanted to throw in my support! xD

My favorite style is actually none of the above. ^.^ I LOVE the Bikila LS, both for running and walking. I have a black pair, and though they are rather hot in the sun, I think they are SO much more comfortable than either the classic or the standard Bikila. (I have a pair of the Classics and the standard Bikila too.) I've worn holes in my black pair and will probably aquire another pair this summer. :P

Though I do run in mine, just remember to take it very slow and as DR says, avoid asphalt and such as much as possible. It takes the bones/muscles in the feet quite some time to properly accustom to being barefoot again after essentially being in a cast for the biggest part of their existence. =]

Very well put Laura. The biklas are the running model and they are also my favorite vibram. Barefoot training should be a part of every serious runners program as they make you so much more aware of your body and you learn so many new things about running. Barefoot training has been the biggest imporvement i have made in my training EVER.

They are the model for road running, and they are fine for that, but a lot of people new to barefoot running fall into the mistake of trying to do too much too soon and that can cause injuries. Even though they are MADE for that, having your feet in shoes your whole life will cause both the muscles and the bones to weaken significantly, so if you go right out and run for miles and miles straight out of the box without first walking and then building your running mileage up slowly you can get hurt. It takes your feet about a year to adjust to being barefoot (especially if you didn't go barefoot much before taking up minimalist shoes). I don't think that asphalt has to be avoided indefinately, after all, nature herself is full of hard surfaces, but I do think it is wise to try to run on softer ground in your early stages of minimalist running. =]
And I absolutely agree, I think minimalist/barefoot running is one of the best things in the world. It's so much like flying. Running minimalist vs running in 'normal' shoes is the difference between running and not running for me. I love it. =D

*jealous* That sounds amazing! I wish I had somewhere like that to run so close. =[

I had to back off, myself. I did quite a lot of walking first, but when I started running, I went from not running at all, to running 10+ miles a week (all of this on asphalt, btw). I started out doing 2 mile run/walks, then went to 2 mile runs, then I kept adding more running days, and the day I went up to 3 miles at once I had some issues. So, I quit running for awhile, and have worn ONLY minimalist shoes since and am now slowly adding in some more running. =] My problem is it's so fun that once I'm started I want to keep piling on more and more miles, and the only place that's good to run that's really close to me is a paved trail. There are others I like much better, but I can't drive that far during the week. :/
