Where I live it seems its all pretty expensive :s So what I was wondering is if anyone knows good places in Ontario...
Also, what are some fruits that are cheaper but higher calorie? Its hard to stay on budget while getting enough calories, so what are good staple foods? Bananas I like, Avacados are pretty good (but cant eat many), what else? thanks!
well ontario is a pretty broad area to be asking for since what we can give you is mostly big chain supermarkets because the cheap fruit(and good fruit) in my town is mostly from local or privately owned shops.
"loblaws" isnt bad, and check out "farm boy" if you have it
In Woodbridge,On. you can ask the manager of the local grocer ( in my case Fortinos and No-Frills ) for box prices of bananas ( especially the ripe ones they tend to put on sale )
Oranges and pears are relatively inexpensive too.
i find the cheapest fruit in Toronto in Spadina Chinatown. I buy papayas there for $1.99 daily. The exact same fruit at every other supermarket tends to be at least $3.99 and as much as $7.99.
Mangoes are a good staple fruit - high in calories, and quite often on sale, at the smaller green grocers. You have to keep an eye on their sale sections.
