My twin sister, Mackenzie Carpenter (also on the site), and I are raw vegans looking to move away from the cold weather. We currently live in Wilmington, DE and are tired of the cold winters, poor air quality, power-plants/factories right around the corner, and general atmosphere of the area. We would love to move somewhere warm, preferably with hiking/biking trails, campgrounds, maybe a beach. Anyone know of some places like this?? Thanks! :)
Most people in the SF bay area who visit LA seem to strongly detest it.
hands down, california. los angeles to be exact! we have amazing fruit, sunshine, and awesome people! can't beat the whole sale produce market. i grew up on the east coast and i am not sure how i lasted as long as i did! SF is so so awesome too, but a little too chilly for me and it's unfortunately, super expensive. but they too have great produce markets like berkley bowl and NorCal and SoCal have really fantastic raw and vegan restaurants all over! I am not sure what NorCal is like as far as outdoor activities, but SoCal has a lot of running and hiking trails and stair walks plus multiple beaches. oh, and of course, Palm Desert where you can soak in real hot springs, go to a date tasting, and camp!
Thanks! We've been to Palm Desert before and we love that area too! It sounds like there are so many awesome places in California. It's going to be hard to make a decision!
Since you're on the East Coast you might not wanna fly all the way across the country. Florida, Massachusetts (Boston+ Cape Cod) and some of the more rural areas of New Jersey are all vegan-friendly states and have many places to get whole foods for good prices.
Yeah, I'm not sure that we want to fly all the way across the country either haha. We really like cape cod and that area, but we want to live somewhere warmer, so honestly, we will probably end up somewhere in florida. We want to travel and visit many of the different places suggested though, so we'll see!
Thank you!! I didn't think about Tuscon, but that's a really good suggestion too! :)
San Francisco air quality is crap so id suggest somewhere in florida!.. thats where id go if i could i live in Sacramento unfortunately :/ lol
Colorado is really good for hiking, kayaking, rafting, mountain biking, camping, but in the winter there's a lot of snow for skiing and snowboarding. Its a very outdoorsy state, but we dont have a ton of farmer's markets... California is really good for that. Especially northern CA.
So exciting! I live just south of SF Bay Area in Monterey. It's close to many regional parks, world-renowned biking trails, loads of beaches, and lots of excellent little produce shops. It's not quite as glamorous as SF, not as pricy as Stanford/Palo Alto areas--it's just right!
I would love to have warmer weather though. I have access to amazing fruit and veg, so can't complain. It's just much colder here than people imagine California to be! I take care of my old horse and it's usually dipping into the 30s here at night in winter.
Hope you pick a good one!
