30 Bananas a Day!

Hi,

From a pure Health (not ethical) aspect - I'd like to know what is wrong with eating vegetables other than leafy greens? I know about potatoes and rice (or grains in general) as well as legumes, but what about carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, beetroot for example?

There is nothing wrong with them. It's just that most of them you need to cook in order to eat substantial amount of them. If you want to be 100% raw it makes it hard to eat some of them. Otherwise they are relatively very good and healthy choice.
Thanks! Makes sense. But as a transition food vegetable soup or raw carrots are almost ideal then yes?
Any kind of food should be satisfying by its quality and quantity. How healthy is the actual food is our choice. When I eat "transitional food" it almost always includes cooked starches of some kind otherwise I am still hungry when finished and then I would eat food not so transitional. Transition is a choice given by our decision and cicumstances. I see myself stuck in "transition" for a good lenght of time from now on and am happy enough with it. Transition also should be done properly. I personally don't see the point of eating just steamed vegies it doesnt give me any fuel just make me hungry and I cant eat bananas after cooked food.

But yes I would call them almost ideal for transition:)
I dont eat broccoli as I find it tuff on digestion but sometimes will eat grated carrot/beetroot/cauliflower a few times a year. Mostly when someone else makes a salad for me. :)

If someone makes up a batch of veg juice, Im in but I dont go out of my way to make it myself like I do fruit smoothies etc.
cruciferous veg in high amounts raw are goitrogens. So if one rotates these veg in a raw state and ends up eating lots of cruciferous variety through rotation then it may deplete the thyroid function:
the negative effect is not the same in cooked state.
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Brussel Sprouts
Cabbage
Mustard
Kale
Turnips
Rape seed (Canola Oil)

Other potential goitrogens when eaten in vast quantities may be:
Soy
Pine nuts
Millet
Peanuts
strawberries
peaches
spinach
radishes
...but I think one has to be prone to thyroid disorder
Strawberries and peaches? Can you direct me to the source of this information? I like to read more about it.

Can you also expound the term 'vast quantities'?

"vast quantities"?, i think it might be over a pound every day for 4 months straight to affect a healthy person...Im totally making that up. But I think it would have to be many many months of loads of peaches & strawbs to offset a healthy thyroid. Though, if the person already has thyroid problems they might have to pay attention.
I dunno!
But I do think that if one eats loads of raw cruciferous veggies in daily rotation that even a healthy thyroid would be challenged.

Yea, hard to digest. Cauliflower is the only other veg I eat besides greens, and I eat it because I love it, but I know that I feel much better eating greens instead. I try to save it as a treat once in a while, but I still have some work to do. If you experiment you might find yourself thinking the same thing.
I eat carrots cauliflower and broccoli whenever I feel like it, which I must confess, is not that often. I say that if you want to include some of those for the sake of variety, then go for it!
I don't think there's anything WRONG with it... but unless you chop really small or shred those veggies, they take a long time to chew and hard to get lots of calories from them. Jaw-ercise.
In general, why is it bad to eat potatoes and rice and legumes(if you are not raw?) just curious.
