This man apparently isn't familiar with the high fruit, low fat raw diet. I e-mailed him a couple of day ago informing him about it. I'm thinking if he heard from more people it would help him get the message. Please read the article he wrote below (it's in bold text) and e-mail your responses to vegetarianhealth (at) gmail (dot) com.
btw I don't think the link to the interview works anymore ...
In his book, Healthy At 100, John Robbins studied the societies that live the longest and remain the healthiest -- even well past 100 years of age. These societies consume between 15% and 20% of their calories from fat.
Doctors like Dean Ornish, John McDougall, and Michael Klaper all recommend keeping your fat intake in this same low range to minimize your risk of heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes
However, most raw fooders get about 60% of their calories from fat!
You probably eat a greater *volume* of vegetables than fat. But small volumes of fatty foods still have more calories.
For example, if you pour just 1 tablespoon of olive oil over 2 cups of shredded romaine lettuce, you'll get 16 calories from the lettuce and 119 calories from the oil. In other words, 88.1% of your calories are from fat!
Last year, Nomi Shannon -- "The Raw Gourmet" -- interviewed me about this issue. In the interview, I explain how to balance raw foods with *healthy* cooked foods, freeing you from the "yo yo" struggle of trying to be 100% raw, only to wind up binging on unhealthy foods.
Normally, only Nomi's paying students have password access to this life-saving Q&A. But I've specially arranged to place it on our website, and remove the password, for the next 48 hours.
