My boyfriend is very interested in going 80-10-10. In fact, he has made the commitment to be 100% 811RV within the next 2 weeks.
Here's the dilemma: even eating cooked food, he doesn't consume enough calories. It's not so much that he's anorexic, as he's not used to eating so much. He used to eat the typical male SAD diet (pizza, fast food, etc.) PLUS he's from the south (i.e. fatty, fried foods). When we met, he went pretty much completely vegan and hasn't eaten enough since. He complains about how hard it is to eat that much, cook the food or prepare it, and how much it costs, but he is determined to go raw. I should also mention my motive behind asking is not just for his health and well-being, but because he is a total b**** when he doesn't eat enough (blood sugar issues?)
He's 27 years old, 5'11", around 140-145 pounds, and needs approximately 3,000 NOT INCLUDING exercise. Any advice would be appreciated, especially from guys who have been in the same condition and are now succeeding on LFRV.
THANK YOU AND MUCH, MUCH LOVE!
I've been trying to increase my cals too. I started with a 5 banana smoothie in the morning (500 cals), and now I'm up to 6-7 bananas + 6 - 7 dates smoothie = about 1000 cals. I take it to work in my Bubba Keg (a construction worker's mug that I got at the hardware store) and I don't try to pound it, I just sip it over the course of maybe an hour or so. It's freaking delicious!
My hubby also gets really crabby when he doesn't eat enough. We call it HANGRY LOL How did you get your boyfriend to switch? Seems like SAD men get really attached to their junk foods. I would love to see my husband even show an interest...
He was already interested in becoming vegetarian. I think it was really the fact that I was willing to cook for him. Whenever I didn't have the time or I was away, he would slip back into his old habits and eat junk food. Now he sees "the light" in eating this way. He's been used to it for long enough that if he slips, he feels awful. He's had the time to get used to how good it feels when your body is clean and eating pure foods.
He's not a big fan of dates. Just bought a bunch today, since he's said he's willing to do whatever it takes. ;] Personally, I'm all about the dateorade.
