30 Bananas a Day!

We are trying to make the transition into the fall season after a glorious summer of melons every day for breakfast.
In Mike's video, he mentions that papaya is his favorite breakfast food. Here in Georgia, the papayas are extremely expensive, and we have a hard time getting them to ripen.
Can anyone suggest an inexpensive, good source for papaya? (If there is such a thing).
Or, perhaps someone might suggest another type of fruit we could try for breakfast.
Right now we are eating grapes and apples, but it doesn't work as well as the melons.

Ditto! They are so expensive here in FL though. I got some organic ones from WF at like $1.50 each or something like that but they are seriously the best persimmons ever mmm mm mm. Just had em for breakfast.
Hey, Peter. We have enjoyed the melons in Arizona this year, but they are nothing like Georgia melons - man, those are unforgettable! There really is no substitute, is there?
For something inexpensive, you can always make banana smoothies, just add water to make them as 'juicy' as you like. The key is to pulse the blender instead of running it, this way there is less oxidation and tastier results.
Persimmons should be coming into season there and citrus is just around the corner. Have you talked to Jerry Polk at Polk's Produce? He can give you the info on a nearby persimmon farm and also hook you up with some great citrus when the time comes. He's just an all-around great guy anyhow.
If you ever go down to Jacksonville, we used to buy wholesale at the jax farmers market. Papayas were usually around $25 a box (~ 9 large papayas), oranges around $15 a bushel. Let me know if you want more info about shopping there. We didn't usually find much at the Savannah state farmers market, but there must be something there if you go at the right time and day. Again, Jerry P. would know more about where to get stuff wholesale or might be willing to haul stuff for you when he goes.

Hey Peter. I hear you on the breakfast issue. I enjoyed watermelon every day all summer and when autumn came around I attempted to transition to grapes, but it just wasn't cutting it. I do papaya (love papaya); however, the papaya that I find in WI is expensive and some do not ripen very well. I have now mostly been having large banana smoothies for breakfast. Sometimes "apple sauce" and dates are another alternative. I love dates and cucumbers together.

I feel your pain.. there is no substitute for a melon breakfast. Are you able to get rockmelon? cantalope I think you call it there. :)
