What's the deal with Lentils and Chick peas - Humus - Good or bad?

After coming around a Vid by Dr Greger this week, thanks to a post from my generous 30 BAD posters on the 15 leading causes of death, I see that he related lentils and beans to be the gift that keeps on giving. Meaning it is a great blood sugar stabilizer. Can anyone shed light on the pros and cons of beans.

Personally I have not been a big fan only because I long term vegan friend of mine told me that the body is not made to digest them and he also attributes his stomach ulcers to eating great quantities of beans when he first went vegan.

Any advice would gratefully be received.

Thank for the advice - I think it would be the same for me. Except for the Miso. I use to buy it too but I stopped buying it because of the salt content and because I was totally addicted to it.

Thank you, thank you Misty for making me remember sprouted mung beans. I want to remain raw. I tried sprouting lentils back when it was winter but they were yuck so I composted them around my banana trees. Now thanks to you I can have my cake and eat it too.

Back in the 70's my mother use to buy them here in Oz and I loved them. I was always in trouble for eating everyone else's share.

I will get to sprouting some as soon as I make my next trip to town.

Cheers

Haven

Thanks Misty. I will add it back into my diet and hope I can contain myself from reverting to nibbling away at a whole pack in a matter of a week or more

I eat beans and peas all the time, 3-4 times/week, no problems at all.

Try it out and see how you feel on them.

Thank you for sharing this. Can I ask what kind and with what else you eat them with?

Make some sprouted lentils... i eat the with nori sheets and make vegan sushi, with some shredded carrots, avocado, tomatos and cucumber :) YUM

You can also make sushi with hummus, or lettuce wraps with hummus, lemon/Lime juice and some other veggies, its really good! AND! also cabbage wraps are REALLY good with hummus, some avocado, tomato, zucchini, cucumber, etc... all the veggies you like :) Just grab a huge leaf of cabbage and fill it, roll it, eat it :) ! You can even make raw sprouted chickpea hummus, i've failed on doing that every time, but you can try it, make sure not to eat raw chickpeas that are NOT sprouted cose they are toxic...

Thank you Carolina, The raw chickpea hummus sounds wonderful. When you say you failed making the raw chickpea hummus, what do you mean - what went wrong?
