I've always had trouble with watermelon as well. Crippling pain that would send me to the bed to lay in fetal position until it passed after 10-15 minutes. I used to have the same problems with all melons but now I can eat 2-3 cantaloupe or honeydew in the morning no problem. But I haven't had watermelon in about 4 months now so it's hard to say if it would still cause problems.
If I did choose to eat it I know I wouldn't "scarf" it down and would eat it in smaller portions. Like instead of eating a whole water melon why not eat a 1/4 of it, wait 15-20 minutes and see how you feel then eat some more. I know it's tough not to just scarf it down all at once but if you slow down you could avoid the discomfort.
Your other option is to maybe supplement with chromium because that could be the issue causing the "melon belly" and pain. http://health101.org/art_melon-belly - personally, I would avoid taking supplements if you don't have to and just slow the eating down. If you haven't been eating raw vegan for too long yet, your body might start to get more used to it as well. I've gotten way better at eating larger mono fruit meals now that I've been going at this for over a year.
Did i mention SLOWWW. I still get that.....alot if i don't eat slowlyyy... eat a little go do something, eat a little go do something.
AND, sound ridic - but drink water before eating watermelon lmfao
I'll try the water and eating slower. Thanks :)
enjoying every mouthful really is important :)
I definitely eat too fast and forget to savor the flavor sometimes. I'lly try to slow down and see if things improve :)
I personally think that if your body is telling you it doesn't want watermelon in there you should probably avoid it. Your body is pretty clever and if it doesn't want you eating something then it will tell you. :)
But it's so delicious haha
I limit my self to 1/2 a melon at time to avoid stomach pain I can't eat slow enough to eat a whole. I think it's because of the volume.
Does this work for you?
Eating half of a 20lb. watermelon is really a lot to fit into your stomach in one sitting.
I'd do what Raymond wrote, eat a quarter of it, wait 15-20 minutes and then eat more if you like.
It also sometimes happens when I eat a little bit, too, so I don't think it's the volume.
