30 Bananas a Day!

Want to buy something to make tap water drinkable, need recommendations.

I have the following options:

- I got a spare tap water connector where I can hookup some device

- Device should use 220V

- Device can be the size of a vitamix blender or a bit larger

- Device should NOT make noise when in standby (not used during the nights)

- Device should be available in Europe/Netherlands

I don't know enough about water filtering devices to know what to buy ;) Thanks in advance.

I attached a file with URL's to some information and shops I found for people in The Netherlands looking for a filter or distiller.

The consensus here on 30BaD has been distilled water is best, which I agree with and Dr. Doug says any cheap water distiller will do fine.

RO only takes out up to 97% of flouride.  But it is still pretty good.  I have one but I would like to get a distiller at some point.  This is the one I want: Water Distiller - Pyrex Glass Water Distillers

http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/en/michael_pritchard_invents_a_water_...

http://www.lifesaversystems.com/

this product is very expensive but very effective.

watch the ted talk through the link above. fascinating stuff.

you can actually drink toilet water with this system.

Is this necessary in the netherlands? Thats a new development for me

https://www.dunea.nl/drinkwater/belangrijkste-stoffen/gezondheidkun... that is what I found. I was thinking drinking the stuff everyday may add up... I am not a expert in this. But I guess they are the same around Europa. http://www.lenntech.nl/filtratie/drinkwaterrichtlijn-who.htm

Guess our little safe country is also changing into a toxic chemical dump .....

move to sweden! the fruit is crap but the berries and the tapwater makes it work! hahaha

I was looking to buy this SmartStill product:

http://www.smartstill.com/countertop-home-water-distiller-accessori...

http://www.smartstill.com/how-to-use-smartstill-water-distiller.html

But the instruction tell you to first soak the carbon filter for 5 minutes in near boiling water before every distillation, and to replace the carbonfilter and use the residue remover and de-scaler every week.

This seems like a lot of work... is this normal for a countertop distiller?

Ya we had this one for a few years: http://www.aquatell.com/water-distillers/waterwise-distillers/water...

They tell you to use the carbon filter with it, it's not necessary and did not do anything.  I figure the bleached paper and glue of the charcoal filter probably did more harm than good.

descaling, I don't think we ever descaled and had it for over 2 years with a little build up on the sides.

I just use a Britax water filter jug with Maxtra filters. It certainly gets rid of the horrible chlorine smell that comes off our tap water. The tap water where I live is not fluoridated. I'm not sure what else the Britax filters filter out but the water tastes really good after it's filtered.

Janet this seems like a nice economical way of getting the water better.
