has anyone in the community been successful by walking to lose weight/ boost metabolism? i come from an anorexic background and associate running with being anorexic/not eating and i also hate it. I love walking and was just wondering everyone else's thoughts on this! thanks so much everyone!
Why are you trying to lose weight in the first place?
If you must, swim or cycle. Walking is great if you need stress relief. Not great to "lose weight"...its just something we're supposed to be doing every anyways, not something that "changes your body". Walking is also good for people morbidly obese since they can't move around, and for people recovering from injuries who need to build some confidence in a bad body part.
i recently broke my bike and wrecked my car so getting to the gym is a little harder but thank you for the reply! i will try doing laps in my pool even thought its not a lap pool!
I went for a simple 30min walk per day and lost well over 100lbs. I'd say it works just fine.
no I wasnt I was low carbing at the time tho.
If you walk fast enought to get your heart rate in fat burning zone then you will lose weight and boost metabolism. Get a heart rate monitor and keep up a fast pace. I do interval jog/walks 2minutes jog: 1 minute walk and average about 20 miles a week. I am pretty fit without killing myself running fast. I like mellow workouts that do not stress me out.
thanks JoBerry! i will definitely take this into account and try and incorporate some of that into my walks as well!
haha i would definitely not run, i've been looking for new ways of exercise to avoid running at all costs. and you're right losing weight does not mean health, but since that photo I've gained 60+ pounds 20/25 of which i actually needed so i have about 40 pounds to lose and i know its a process but i don't want my overall fitness to be at fault
ok i am in the same boat, thanks for making this forum!
yeah of course girl!
Walking is something we do almost from the first to second year. It is a very safe and natural form of exercise. If I walk more than a mile a day, I put muscle on my legs although I cannot guarantee that for everyone.
No matter what the background, I would recommend walking or doing some toning exercise for about 30 minutes a day 5-6 days a week. (At least one day off for rest and repairs.) This keeps muscles toned and lymph detoxed.
However, make sure this is not used as a tool to feed an ED, rather to walk away from the ED.
Eat more to live more and live more to eat more.
Keep walking, and keep pounding away those calories and nutrient dense fruit n shoots.
