30 Bananas a Day!

Hi all

I have been trying to do some research for my running shoes.

I remember DR recommended Brooks Green Silence... But I did some more research and they came BOTTOM on the Ethical Consumer when you put animals with high priority, and very low even when you keep things "balanced.

Here is the juice:

Brooks trainers

Product Score: 4.5

Anyway, I also came across this on www.VeganRunners.co.uk:

Are you interested in barefoot running? Barefoot shoes make ones feet and legs stronger and improve posture, but I don't think they will make you run the fastest times, however. I purchased a pair of evo 2's from vivobarefoot.com and am very pleased with them even though they have started to rip a little after HEAVY usage. Click on the vegan section and you'll find the shoe, they also claim to be 100% vegan and the soles are recyclable. They have some healthy and good looking shoes in general.

Yeah am quite interested in that, especially since on stationary running on the Wii that is how I do it.. I use the wii barefoot so my running style is already like that and I haven't picked up the bad habits cos I am a newbie.
Do you know anything about the company's other ethics??

They supposedly care a lot about the environment and are all about sustainability. Check out http://www.vivobarefoot.com/uk/why/ and see what you think.

Hey, I did my research and definitely want some. Do you know anything about the fit, though? I am a perfect size 39 EU, i.e. just a little extra room... and an exact size 5.5 in the UK. It says on the site they come up small... so I'm a bit concerned.... Can't go buy them in person unfortunately since I don't think there are any Dutch stockists.

I have a pair of asics field hockey shoes that I ordered from Australia that are a European 43.5. There is about 10mm of space at the front of the shoe. Since vivobarefoot shoes run "1 size" small I decided to order a 43 thinking it would fit like a 42, which according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Shoesize-adult-en.svg should be about 10mm shorter than my 43.5 hockey shoes, perfect, right?... Wrong.

I was surprised to find out how large the vivobarefoot shoes actually fit (at least compared to my asics shoe) and ended up returning the 43 for a 41 which does not have more than 3mm of space at the front if even that much.

For me, the 41's fit perfectly. My second toe protrudes slightly beyond my big toe on my right foot, and when I first put on my evo 2's I could feel this toe at the end of the shoe. I don't always feel it now, however, and it doesn't ever bother me when I'm running; this leads me to believe that the shoe slightly stretches temporarily with running or heavy casual use.

I would say you want your vivobarefoot shoes to be on the tighter side than the looser side since I believe the shoe stretches a little and because you definitely don't want big running shoes, you'll be able to run in them but can experience complications running downhill (like your foot tending to slide towards the front of the shoe) and they are just less functional as a fitness shoe in general.

I'm not sure exactly what shoe or shoes fit you a 39 and what exactly you define as a little extra room (<3mm? <5mm?) My 41 fits about 8mm shorter than my 43.5. My intuition is leading me to believe that with the shoe's ability to stretch a little a 37 would fit you, but then again, depending on the size of this "little extra room" and the error in estimation between the sizing of my asics shoe and your shoe(s), it might be a tad bit small. If you have the money you could order a 37 and a 38 and return the one you don't want. Here is a link to their delivery and returns policy http://www.vivobarefoot.com/uk/delivery-returns/.

Hope this helps. : )

I was really lucky. In the end I found a place in my town doing the Vivo Barefoot EVO II for 90 EUR! Cheaper than online, and I got advice and to try them on! Thank you so much for your ever so helpful advice. :)

What size did you end up getting? Which color as well? Do you love the shoe? Pretty stylish huh. And don't forget it's good to run with the sole out if you already have strong feet.

My exact size - 39. Really nice shoes. I got the EVO II, black with yellow, mens (they didn't have womens and there is no real difference).

Hey Rose, where did you find yours? I'm from Rotterdam so maybe I can find a store here which has them too... :)

Wait a couple of weeks... ;) http://www.anyonesrunshop.nl/ They are opening in Rotterdam. Note, I paid 90 EUR. 40 EUR cheaper than on the Vivo website. Well worth going to that shop.

Thanks, that's nice :D
