30 Bananas a Day!

I tried eating mostly raw for 5months eating 4000 calories a day.  i got tired of eating fruits so out of curiousity i did all starches for 2 months eating 6000 calories and i lost 10lbs.  i am now 135lbs 5'9.  I know that raw fruits are the best food and most optimal but im confused to why I lost weight.  Is it because i ate no overt fat and starches like rice and potatos are so low in fat?  Ive been thinking maybe my body is using more energy trying to break down complex carbs into simple sugars.............idk

Just a thought, but ins some cases malabsorption, or inability to digest and assimilate nutrients is to blame.  Many people struggle with digestion and assimilation of rice and other grains.  On top of that, outside of potatoes, most starches are just empty calories.  So without good sources of nutrients like vitamin C, the body cannot build healthy tissues.  Then one has to wonder if weight loss was fat based or muscle and bone density based?  

If you are male, your weight is getting into the low side and possibly a danger zone regarding loss of healthy body mass and or necessary body fat needed for storage of fat soluble vitamins.  

I might recommend you go back to the mostly raw plan and start adding some overts back in like one avocado a day or a handful of nuts or seeds.

All starches i basically ate tons of rice and pastas since it was calorie dense

Did you have some fruit on the side or veggies with your starch? I love starches but I have to have greens with them at least. 

No i just ate most of the starches with tomato sauce and ketchup if tomato count as veggie than yea


I tend to lean more towards the malabsorption idea based on my research of how our digestive systems respond to grains and or gluten products.  

Mcdougall starts people out on a 2000 calorie based diet, and many people still gain some weight on the diet and have to adjust calories and or replace starch calories with yellow and green vegetables.  

So if someone is eating 6k calories and losing weight, I have to question why?  And or what kind of weight was lost as I mentioned before regarding muscle and bone mass.  Many starches do not have vitamin C needed to build tissues and or good mineral content like calcium.   

Still, more research needs to be done.

What ive noticed is my body gets so hot after eating starches i start dripping in sweat i think starches in general take lot more energy to digest.... I also started running 30min a day

yea its mostly raw with one cooked meal i had 2 avocados a day but i cut it out when i started eating all starches since it didn't digest well.  lot of the weight i lost might be water weight even though i was eating lots of ketchup, i was sweating alot so that might be why

This is possible for several reasons:

The body holds onto more water needed for the process of breaking the starch bonds, and this water could be released when the "work" is done.  

Starches also provide almost pure glucose to the body and little else in the way of nutrients.  

In an efficient body, the process of burning the starch/glucose, thermogenesis, could produce excess body heat.

In the past I tried the same as you with the same exact results. I ate 99% of my meals brown rice, and ate between 5000-6000 / day. I did that for about a month and lost a lot of fat. 

What i knowticed is with starches i felt like my digestive system felt heavy and kinda overworked
This is fascinating.
I tried doing a more McDougall style diet for a couple months in winter and gained about 10 pounds but I only ate 2,000 - 2,500 calories.
These days after my cooked carb dinner I too get ridiculously hot, although not every day, just some days.
I would think you need more fat in your diet but if you feel good then great. Keep us updated.

i subscribe to his youtube channel. But he defently isnt "very lean".
