30 Bananas a Day!

Hey folks

I got my blood results back a little while ago. I go religiously - every 6 months or so and have been doing so for a decade.

My results go as follows: 16/02/11 triglyceride = 0.6 (they need to be <1.5 apparently). 28/09/11 = 0.7. Then I started HCV (not entirely raw, I have been eating steamed rice and steamed sweet potatoes some days. I drink 3-4 litres of water per day, and get 2700-3000 calories a day). Anyway, on the 09/02/2012 triglycerides came back as 1.2. So, within about three or so months of eating this way, the tri's have spiked 42%.  I'm not freaking out or anything, I just wanted to ask what the reason was behind it.

I read somewhere that there is a direct link between high tri's and low vit d levels. My vit D levels have been in the 80's (85, 83) and this time it came back as 72 (the 'normal' is >75). I see that as a minor drop in vit d for such a great jump in tri's but who am I to say?

Any feedback or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read.

I've been looking in Vitamin D as I was around 54 and had bowel cancer which a lot of research indicates is correlated with Vit D. My GP and a Naturopath both recommended I get my levels up to 150+ as a lot of research says this is the level to have. I'd most certainly recommend supplementing and trying to get more sun.

The standard range is too low IMO.

Also I was taking around 10,000IU a day. I got to 160 and stopped and tried to get enough sun. My levels dropped to 100. I started taking 5,000IU a day and after a few months it simply maintained 100 so I've double to 10,000IU again and am monitoring it closely.

That seems to be the case in Aus with many other things (B12 being the other major one). Who the heck sets these limits?

who izzzz questioning zeee limits !

ah ah ah ah lol

The liver can convert fructose to trigs.  DR will say your level is not that high.  But no one around here cares to admit that fructose is causing this or give an explanation as to why it's ok.  I don't believe a minor change in D can cause this either.

However DR's tris are around .6 and .7 which are rather low. He also eats heaps of carbs and doesn't train all the time contrary to popular belief. He also cover all exercise with more fructose.

Yes, it's a mystery.  Why are some low and some high?  But I also believe he's much more active then he will admit to.

Possibly Vit D and dietary fat. Maybe exercise as well?

Also I do recall the doco about high fructose corn syrup also mentioned that they found fructose intact with fibre did not have the same effect.

I have high trigs after 2 years HCRV, mostly 955, and no hfcs, so this is a mystery for me.

Chuck, how is your blood sugar?
