yeah i agree dirtgirl, i didn't think about the fact you still have to cremate for this.

why not just a simple burial (no coffin or anything) and then plant a tree on top of that? (or nothing lol, but i would want the land to be used too)

You would probably have to get special zoning or something crazy to bury a body. And if they have embalmed the body, which is common practice. Then there are hazardous chemicals. Imagine that when you look over a grave yard. *shivers*

Although I agree the symbolism of an ungrave being a body in fetal position with a tree growing and reaching it's roots into it is very nice.

So glad that this topic is getting brought up.  I have never been to a funeral in my life and I don´t want to, nor do I want one for myself when I die, and I am wondering if anyone following the LFRV lifestyle actually wants a funeral when they die.

A few years back I remember getting some ¨junk mail¨ in the mail and there was a post card saying...

¨SAVE OVER $8,000 ON YOUR FUNERAL¨

Sheesh, what does it cost to have a basic funeral these days?  And is it even ¨legal¨ to simply be burried without a casket if it is your wish to do so?  I get the impression that it´s ¨mandatory¨ to have some kind of expensive burial or cremation service and that someone you are related to will have no choice but to pay for it.    (At my old job when a co-worker would lose a family member there would often be a ¨charity¨ to raise money to help the family pay for the funeral. )

If you want to be remembered when you die you should do something great when you´re alive.

It is about $10,000 for a basic funeral, cemetery plot, and headstone. This depends on where you are most significantly the availability of land in which to bury people. Cremation is around $1,500. There have been crematorium, which have been found have not been cremating bodies and instead burning them in mass somewhere and giving the family unspecified ashes or burning in mass sessions where the remains are mingled. That should be thought about when choosing that option if there is a certain way you want to buried under your beliefs.

There is also the option to donate your body to science. Although this option can also some times cost money. Sometimes the cremated remains can even be returned to your family once they have finished their work.

I have a buddy who wants to do this, be chopped down and be crafted into a guitar.

Uh, you mean like this?

I purpose to have my remains benefit as many folks as possible, both for scientific research and through organ donation.
