Theory on caloric restriction induced longevity in lab animals.

So I'm sure many of us here have heard that in lab animals, rats/mice, on a calorie restrictive diet lived 20% longer than their peers. Something I learned more recently was that scientists pinned the longevity increase on restriction of sugars, hence eat as much fat/protein as you want, just stay aware from carbs is/was their theory.

Now something I learned even more recently from 811, and of course did some cursory research to confirm, was that excess fat in the diet/blood causes increased sugar in the blood. Now, it stands to reason that based on that last bit of information, any bit of elevated sugar in the blood could be directly attributed to the amount of fat intake. Thus when you cut out sugars, blood sugar levels drop, but I don't think anyone has studied the converse, cut out the fat and sugar will be more readily evacuated from the blood stream.

Anyone else have input?

They achieved the same longevity in rats by restricting a specific sulfur-containing amino acid (methionine) in their dietary protein consumption.

Ways in which we humans can do that:

1. Eat only plants as animal proteins have high levels of sulfur-containing aminos.

2. Limit protein to 10% calories max.

3. Eat primarily fruits as they have low amounts of sulfur-containing amino acids (by comparison to other plant foods) while still containing enough for human nutritional sufficiency.

All of which we do on 80/10/10.

I've never heard about sugar restriction being a possible cause for rat longevity. But it wouldn't surprise me as rats are supposed to subsists on primarily nuts and seeds which is why they contain 10-15 times the amount of fat burning enzymes compared to humans. So lowering sugar consumption would probably be a good thing for rat physiology.

Glad i'm not a rat.
