My parents and I had a long conversation about my move to a high carb raw lifestyle. They are worried about the bananas and no chicken and blah blah blah. I have given them things to read and they have even watched you tube videos. I know they are old school southern black parents but how do I deal with their criticisms? This is a hard enough transition without them (and others) making feel like I am crazy :( What to do?
For now do your best to ignore their criticism, in fact best to laugh it off. After a few months they will SEE the improvements in your looks and your health and that will speak more than words can. There are people out there that are very set in their ways, they do not want to hear about health and how most health problems can be fixed with dietary changes. People like this need to physically see the benefits before they will even entertain discussions. Good luck on your journey!
Thank you guys! Honestly I guess I didn't expect criticism from them so much. I have made a decision to take care of me and my health. I will just brush it all off and do what i want to do. I bet if I said I was only going to eat lean cuisine or tv dinners I doubt any one would have anything to say. I am ready to change my life. Thank you all for the support! 30 BAD is awesome!
Tell them that there is no disease or deficiency that only vegans get. Just keep them company at dinner and go off and blend up some bananas or eat before you sit with them. For people you see less often, it may be a better tactic to not talk much about your nutrition plan. It sounds crazy to other people. At first, many people thought a suggestion that the world was round was crazy. Maybe tell them your just doing this for a day, 30 days or whatever then keep doing it. When it comes down to it. Our minds are attempting to mount precieved evidence up against us to justify totally going off the plan. Your parents may make a comment or two but when they see you looking better and better they will likely totally support you.
