Ok so I had some slight dental issues here and there before going 100% raw, but I feel like my gums are receding like crazy and tooth ache here and there. I eat a ton of citrus and mangoes. I'm guessing its all the citrus. Does anyone have any similar experiences and how did you handle it?
My teeth actually are a lot healthier now after being 100% lfrv for over 3 years.
I follow a lot of the great advice given in this thread.
I eat a lot of greens, over 2 heads a day.
I brush and floss after my meals.
Instead of snacking all day, I typically have 3 or 4 large meals, and if my teeth feel coated after my meals, I brush and floss.
I especially brush and floss after eating darker foods, like blueberries. Anything that can stain a white shirt can also stain your teeth!
Be careful that you don't brush too hard to keep your gums from receding. Gentle and consistent is best :)
yes gentle brushing is important too
That's a good tip about anything that can stay your teeth being the yardstick to look out for.
And the gentle brushing. lol.. I really don't know where I heard this but apparently I was told that you need to put a little ughff into brushing to make it effective. Ai ai Captain, point taken. Never again. Thanks Teri!
Often people have inflamed gums and then they stop being inflamed and can appear receded. Only way to know for sure is do photos, before and after and compared with other medical definitions.
99% of the citrus I see in stores is unripe and needs a few weeks more or even a few months more to ripen. I rarely eat citrus for that reason. Citrus should be SUGAR sweet but hard to know what that is unless we have had that sort of citrus.
Unripe fruit can be acidic for dental enamel. We prefer bananas and datorade.
Dates are going to be an acquired taste for me too.
What type of greens do you use? I usually get the organic baby romaine which is pre-washed and packaged. Much easier to just chuck it in the blender with a bunch of Persimmons or whatever. I hope this is nutritionally dense enough. It better because I am lazy in this regard. lol
Btw what else do you rountinuely eat besides banana and dates?
Yay DURIANRIDER ! lol
I just got a crazy stash of bananas, so I'm good to go for a few days. And I don't have to worry about downing citrus for a while, I'm foraging/fruit sharing a whole bunch of tropical fruits over the next few weeks. Yay for me. I learnt that tip on 30bad http://www.30bananasaday.com/video/willy-rawnka-foraging-adventure?....
agree about the citrus in stores being unripe :(
the only ripe citrus ive ever had are oranges ive picked myself on a farm
Ditto on the making sure your fruit is ripe. Citrus is notoriously unripe. Mangoes can be unripe if you eat them too soon before they are nice and soft and sweet. Someone mentioned limes - limes are always sold unripe. If they are green, they are unripe. I still eat them once in awhile on a salad or guacamole or something, but they are not a staple in my diet.
