I have been experiencing the oddest swelling in my parotid glands/lymph nodes (jaw area under ear) and don't know why. It is most pronounced when I am sleeping and when I first wake up, it gradually goes down throughout the day.
Also, I've been eating about the same way for some time now, the only recent changes I have made is eating about twice as much fruit and increasing my calorie intake to 3000. Since doing this I have actually gained about 5 lbs, and I was trying to lose 15, so now I am 20 lbs overweight.
I was thinking that the swollen glands might be my body cleaning itself out, but like I said the only diet change I've made is adding about 1000 calories worth of fruit (8 mangos or 10 bananas or 1 whole watermelon) to what I already ate, so in total I'm eating 2500 calories in fruit daily. The weight gain may be from getting too many calories. My diet is 80-10-10, but I do eat sprouted grains (1/2 cup steamed) almost daily in the evening and sometimes soaked cashews or almonds (a handful less than 200 calories).
I am thinking of eliminating 1 meal from my day and eating only 2-3 meals a day. As long as I don't eat a couple of hours before bed I am not hungry when I wake up. If I eat right before bed, I am ravenous the next morning. Also I can't sleep in, I wake up after 6-7 hours of sleep and can't go back to sleep. I think it might do me good to get some extra sleep but I can't make myself sleep. Anyway, just hoping someone has some insight as to the swollen glands and weight gain, as well as thoughts on what is enough sleep. I am moderately active. I am mostly concerned about the swollen glands...
As I understand it, hair is made out of mostly protein. Your body is probably using the protein for something else more vital. Are your nails weak as well?
i have the same problem and its very annoying i wish i knew what it was at least
You added 1000 cals to your diet without an increase in physical activity? Why did you feel the need to do that? Were you hungry all the time?
I actually had a swollen parotid gland last July, but it got so bad I had to be hospitalized and they never really found out why I got it...same exact place, jaw area under ear...except for me I was eating less than usual at the time it happened. But I also had other serious symptoms like high fever/chills/etc with it.
That's good it goes down through out the day, I'd say go to the doctor if it gets progressively worse and you get a fever...I waited a couple days for mine to go down but it kept getting bigger and it also spread to my throat/upper chest area.
Is it painfully tender?
Swollen parotid glands have many different causes. If they don't hurt, it is usually autoimmune disease related, or from binging and/or purging.
I've had swollen parotid glands for almost 10 years, mine are caused by my autoimmune disease, hashimoto's, but they go down, and stay down, when I am eating healthily and not gaining weight. When i gain weight, they swell up, when I lose or maintain weight, they go down and stay down.
