I have no fruit and I'm in a SAD house.
Is enriched white rice safe?
It's the only high carb food item available and I need the calories.

It's a whole lot safer than not eating, thus leaving yourself open to hunger pangs and gobbling up anything you might then find.
Make up a giant pot and add whatever veggies you can find!
thanks for the insight.
No canned fruit available or juice? Don't go hungry you will be miserable. Eat the rice steamed. :) high carb better than binging later on!
yeah, i eat it all the time.
sorry to hear about your SAD house though... : (
Oh hey but at least you are in a house so are you no longer homeless or is it temporary? I myself don't eat any cooked carbs so I might not be the best to give advice on this but as for the rice question, brown rice is better but white rice is fine if you are going to eat rice. Anytime I have seen Durianriders eat rice it is white rice. Definitely don't let yourself starve that isn't going to help anyone.
temporary. A friend was nice enough to let me crash on the floor at his place.
i ate more of it then i care to admit one time and gained. I have no idea if it is the reason why i gained or not however. I've eaten it at other times with no issue. I hate to say it but the kind they sell at the chinese resturants here in the states is like junk food to me. I dunno what they do diff but I love the stuff plain by itself. But I realize other then calories it offers very little so try and avoid it.
tho if it was my only choice i might be happy about it like i said to me its like getting a bag of doritos or something.
I eat rice pretty often when I don't have fruit, but its always either white thai jasmine rice or brown rice, not "enriched" rice. Enriched anything with synthetic minerals always sketches me out.
Luckily I found a bag of white thai jasmine rice hidden in their cupboard ;D
Oh I totally missed the enriched point yeah I wouldn't wan to eat "enriched" rice. I don't blame you there.
When you eat white brown rice, you are in fact, eating the rice kernels, which by itself, would be white rice.
By removing the germ and the husk, you are removing some mircro-nutrients and allot of fibre. On the plus side, you lose anti-nutrients, such as Phytic acid, which binds to certain minerals and interferes with their absorption. Not to mention, you are getting some of the lost minerals back by it being "enriched".
I cannot comment as to weather consuming isolated vitamins and minerals in conjunction with other food is safe. I would imagine it to be like adding greens to a banana smoothie to increase the mineral content.
You can compensate for the lack of fibre and reduced micro-nutrients in white rice by eating it with lots of vegetables. That is also a good way to make it taste better.
