30 Bananas a Day!

Hello, lovelies! What is the general consensus on orange juice and whether or not this seems like an acceptable option? Of course raw juiced oranges are always the best but I find myself CRAVING OJ and juicing isn't always an option. Thoughts?

Provided it contains real orange juice, its a decent choice during emergencies.  Just be aware that it will be pasteurized, it's obviously been around for a while, and it may contain additional, even unlisted, ingredients.

If I buy orange juice, I only get Indian River brand. It's from Florida so I don't know if it's widely available elsewhere. So far that's the only brand I've found that doesn't use flavor packets (companies use them even if the ingredients say 100 percent orange juice). It's so hard to tell what's really in the juice you buy!

I think as far as store bought pasteurized juice goes that ones like OJ with an expiration date are better than bottled juice that can sit on shelves for much longer.  But only in real emergencies where you have no dates available, no fruit whatsoever, no frozen fruit, no fresh smoothies or fresh juices and you have a real problem with any cooked anything like sweet potatoes then I could see drinking pasteurized fruit juice.

I love orange juice.
I am in HS so I don't have tons of money to spend on fruit. Florida's Natural not-from-concentrate OJ is a cheap source of calories (albeit not raw).

The important thing, I think, is that it's not from concentrate - otherwise it's pretty much just flavored sugar water.

Also, watch out for non-vegan orange juice -- many juices have added calcium and vitamin D, which is often of animal origin. Omega-3-enhanced juices may contain fish.

so why drink it at all? Once it has been pasturized and put in a box, it has little in common with the fruit it originated from. It's closer to diet coke than real orange juice.

Since I had to go back to Cooked-High-Carb-Raw Vegan, I do drink pasteurized Orange Juice quite often.  Though, I never buy the concentrated version, only the non-concentrated and it is usually just orange juice 'with bits'. I buy it for the convenience when going to College as it can get so packed sometimes that eating fruit is claustrophobic and I am at the computers most of the time and eating watery fruit can get messy lol. There are awful non-riped fruit in Supermarkets, while since going CHCRV I got a bit lazy of not eating enough wholesome fruit in general since I was getting my carbs from rice etc..., But I still keep it up the best I can. I drink it as a source of just getting in some calories/energy for the day and finally money issues. I would find it hard to keep up with HCRV with the money I have at the moment. It would be possible but for when I am out and about, it would be difficult to replenish with fruits besides bruised bananas lol.

I also put it in smoothies for more energy and a bit of flavoring  I don't react badly at all really to the OJ with bits, sometimes its a bit meh with the others, but typically I am quite fine with it. I just need to compensate with more green smoothies (starting to pick up lately as I have been out of a blender for a year, AWFUL). getting back on track.

For sure:

Trader Joe's and Whole Foods have fresh squeezed orange juice (unpasteurized).  It's delicious!  It's definitely had all the pulp strained out though, from what I can tell.  When I make it at home, it is full of pulp.  I definitely prefer the home juiced stuff since it has the pulp (fiber) in it.
