30 Bananas a Day!

So, I live in an Indian household where there are basically 3 rules for each meal:

  1. If the veggies still have any minute quantity of nutritional value, they simply haven’t been cooked long enough.
  2. Chapatis and rice are more necessary than the very lungs with which we breathe.
  3. There WILL be dahl.

Adapting to a HCRV lifestyle has been beyond awesome so far.  I’ve renounced numbers 1 and 2 without a single glance back.  Number 3, though, has been very tempting.  I keep reminding myself that the dahl will always be loaded with ghee (fat) and salt, and I avoid it at all costs, despite the fact that I absolutely cherish the way the spices smell when they cook.

Looking for a loving compromise, I started questioning bean sprouts.  They are raw vegan, high fiber, some carbs, and low fat .  I’ve experimented with the ratios on chron-o-meter.com, and I find that the protein won’t push me over the 10% mark.  With some blending and a little cumin, I might be able to have something to replace my one comfort food.

But I have yet to see any HCRVs mention beansprouts.  Am I missing something?

I’m wondering if anyone out there in 30bananas a day land has tried adding bean sprouts in any way.  Are they copatible with this diet?  Have you had any digestional issues or other interactions that I might be overlooking?

haha that would be weard eating them prolly wouldnt eat them less they were killed :)

id put some cayinn onem and be ok :)

I used to sprout mung beans and had no issues with them.... Don't do so well with other sprouted beans. They upset my tummy. I think you digest better when cooked too even if you sprout.  I am trying to do 100% raw right now so I stopped eating them.  I may have some cooked in the winter if raw is harder to keep up.... but so far so good....

yaa maybe in the winter for me also :) i like fresh fava beans thoe :)

sprouted beans are best kept to a minimum when eaten raw. if you blend them up your likely to eat lots of them especially  if there is spices in it. the problem with it is they contain sugars that need to be cooked to break down. if you eat to many you can get gas and bloating. if you really want dahl i would suggest sprouting and cooking the beans then making it your self with out ghee. You could also try making a hummus out of zuccini.

That's a good point about the gas and bloating.  I'll try the zuccini hummus.  It sounds delish!
