For those of you who take B12, do you take the shots or the sublinguals or the supplements?
I noticed that the sublinguals all have artificial sweetners added to them (unless I missed some pure B12 brands someone could direct me to!?), while the supplements have odd additions like seaweeds or beets?! However, I am sure the shots also have something added to them that might not be all that great. xP Any suggestions? I was told I need to supplement after blood tests were done.
It was also said that the supplements are ineffective if the problem is an issue of absorption, as I'm sure it is. So, would sublinguals or shots work better for this?
The reason the dosage is so "low" compared to many B12 supplements is because it is micellised, which vastly increases the absorbability of the supplement, thus reducing the dosage requirements. Bear in mind that even 50mcg per day is more than 10 x the RDA
I just take the 10 drops a day as a maintenance dose, but if someone has a deficiency, I usually recommend they take 30 per day for 2 months then take the maintenance if levels have normalised again.
It doesn't have a particularly noticable flavour. Perhaps a slight mix of sweet and sour, but it is barely noticable.
Sublinguals you take below the tongue. You just lift up the tongue to the roof of your mouth and place the drops below the tongue and keep there for a couple of minutes before swallowing.
Hey Moraine, Once I started seriously training martial arts, running, and kettebells I began two week long cycles of 5000 mcg methylcobalamin sublinguals even though I don't have any issues (I know about). I've heard that methyl is the most usable/retainable form of B-12 and my supp is vegan but contains xylitol, cellulose, steaaric acid, etc but like DR says, JUMP THE FENCE!!! it's worth it in the long run. Same with Vit D in rancid olive oil, I mean, New England middle of winter, could be worse but I'ld rather feel/perform the best!! Good luck with your decision
btw the sub is Jarrow Formulas Methyl B-12
Wow! I just went to buy this exact product at the store this morning, but only in 1000 mcg, as it was cheaper. :) I figured it had the least threatening additives and it looked okay...now I'm just wondering how often to supplement with it, and worrying over potential reactions, haha. Always so suspicious of medications recently.
Also, does anyone else get headaches shortly after taking B complex supplements? I have never tried just taking plain B12, but I am worried about the ensuing headaches returning, as well, agh.
Not sure if I can post this or not. If not plz delete my comment.
Dr Mercola's B12 sprays worked great for me. I get tested regularly.
