30 Bananas a Day!

What do you use to wash your hair? I dont wanna use standard shampoo and conditioner anymore. Dont even want imagine what the chemicals are doing to my body! Really want to find an alternative. This morning I washed my hair with a natural shampoo and used coconut oil as conditioner. My hair feels a bit dry and it was really difficult to comb (I have pretty long hair). What do you use?

I naturally curl/frizzy hair, about 4 years ago I went noo poo and never looked back, no more conditioners, no frizzy free products.....just water from our filtered shower head.

Feels and looks good, hair is strong and the hair products people have much less of my money

the real problem is daily showering which strips your body of its natural oils and dries you out. not to mention the flouride in the water.

as a rule it is best to use products on your body that are safe to ingest. if you can put it inside your mouth it is safe for the outside as well.

although admittedly i am deficient in this pursuit.

There's something in apple cider vinegar that works for me.  Helped clear up a dandruff condition for me pre 80-10-10.  On the 80-10-10 my lymph system is so tuned I don't need it.  I also use Dr Bronner's occasionally.

How do you use it? do you use it straight? I have been trying to clear up a mild bit of dandruff myself. I would appreciate your feedback. Thanx!

Just dump some diluted ACV on your head, rub it in and let sit for half a minute, then wash it out.  In extreme cases you let it sit for an hour or so, then wash out.  Dandruff should be gone withing a couple days/uses.

wow that is so helpful! Thanks for sharing. Does it dry your hair out at all? I always figured baking soda was quite drying.

I use Dr Bronners magic soap

Me, too. 16 ounces of water with a squirt of the liquid Bronner's is more than I need. I traveled without it the last two weeks and my hair was awful. I was so happy to be back home and back on the good stuff. Can't believe I used to live with my hair so awful all the time. No wonder I kept cutting it off! So unmanageable. Now it combs easily and fixes easily. Looooove it!

and this is just with the liquid soap? You dont use anything as conditioner? I tried using coconut oil today and made my hair super greasy. If I dont use conditioner my hair gets really dry

For a long time I just used a natural conditioner to wash my hair. I have curly hair and this is a pretty common routine for curly haired people because they need the extra moisture more than straight haired people do. You just take a big handful of conditioner and massage it into your scalp well and then rinse. You can use extra conditioner on your ends if you need it.

After I did the conditioner-only routine for a long time, I actually started using only water to wash my hair. It took about 5 weeks for my hair to transition into a nice state, but it really cut down on the frizzies for me and after awhile my hair got a lot shinier and I stopped shedding as much too. I only use lukewarm or cool water to rinse my hair so that the natural sebum doesn't get stripped out too much. I also use a bristle-style brush to brush the natural oils through my dry hair for a few minutes every day too. If my hair is feeling a little dry due to my having to wash it everyday from sweaty workouts, I'll smooth in a tiny bit of shea butter on the ends and sometimes I'll use aloe vera gel to help style my curls as they dry.

Long hair really benefits from regular oiling, and there are a lot of different oils that people like. Coconut oil has a lot of fans, but my personal favorite is shea butter, although I want to try jojoba sometime soon too.

I use coconut oil but it makes my hair really greasy. Maybe I use too much. How much do you usually use?

I use a very small amount, like the size of a pea or even less. You can always use more if you didn't get enough the first time, so start small. Before I put it in my hair, I rub it really well between my hands so that it's melted and pat it into my hair, then start finger combing, starting from the bottom  and working my way up.

You may want to experiment with whether to put it in wet or dry hair. I personally like to oil dry hair the night before and let it soak in before I "wash" my hair the next day, but some people find that oiling their hair while wet works best.
