30 Bananas a Day!

Hello fellow vegans!

I was wondering if anyone here has experienced issues with a sensitive digestive system that causes you to feel unwell after eating certain vegan, nonraw/fermented foods.

For example, I LOVE kimchi, but discovered that eating it made me feel sluggish, clouded my mind, and cause gastrointestinal discomfort with bloating, gas, and constipation. (Don't know if it makes a difference, but I only experienced this with daikon radish kimchi because I have not had the more traditional, cabbage kimchi in a while.)

This was confusing because fermented foods in general are supposed to aid digestion right?

I experienced the same problem after eating split pea soup I made with just split peas, vegetable broth, and a little bit of salt and pepper.

Questions I have:

  1. Has anyone had similar experiences?
  2. If so, what symptoms did you have and from which foods?
  3. Also, have you figured out a way to resolve this issue so you could end up eating the potentially more problem causing foods?

How much salt is in your Kimchi? Your symptoms sound like it may be related to the salt in both Kimchi and the split pea soup. How much salt was in your vegetable broth? We should be eating salt in the form in which they occur in whole plant foods. Extracted sodium chloride, (salt) in any form is an irritant and is toxic to the body, regards digestion and excretion, and upsets our critical natural water balance. Celery and tomatoes provides all the organic salts and other minerals our bodies need in just the right amounts and combinations we require.

Yeah I considered that, but I assumed I could avoid the negative effects of salt  if I drank a crap ton of water.

Perhaps not. hahaha
