30 Bananas a Day!

does anyone eat mainly rice.  rice is most economical.  Does it work well to eat only rice and minimal fruit.

I eat 3 cups of rice first thing in the morning with fruit/potatoes/water. Then maybe more for lunch and maybe dinner. I recommend eating food with lots of fiber with the rice. I eat white/brown. I thought I was the only one with rice as a main staple. At first I felt uncomfortable but I'm adjusting to it cuz it's so good with avocado and soy sauce. I make it as low fat as possible.

Awesome! I do the same my man. Especially when I'm cranking out endurance rides. I'll have rice for breakfast usually before I take down half my smoothie. It gives me tons of energy for my ride and when I get back I'll have the rest of my smoothie for recovery. I like the Lundberg Organic Jasmime/ White rice. If it's not organic Goya Thai rice fits the bill as well. 

Thanks! That is super helpful. I eat a lot of rice and it makes me feel so good. I'm keeping fruit in my diet, too - but wondering how much rice some people eat.  I seem to be able to eat a lot of rice and not gain weight - plus feel wonderful.  I agree with the avocado and soy sauce tasting so good.  

Do you wait a while to eat fruit - after you have eaten rice?  Im thinking about digestion when I ask about a waiting time to eat fruit..

I eat a piece of fruit before or after eating rice. Nothing big but maybe 1-2 pieces of fruit. I would wait an hour after eating cooked food for anything bigger. Some rice recipes use fruit for a sweet dessert. I haven't had any issues with this so far :)

yes.   i try to wait a while after eating rice before anything main or i find my stomach just kind of locks up.  need a little time to digest and then start on something else.

Cooked food digests slower than fruit. As far as what I have read from freelee and Durianrider. I hope this was of some help.

In watching a documentary on female Buddhist monasteries I saw that they eat white rice with steamed greens every dinner.

In many food poor areas of Africa they eat oatmeal for every meal with some greens.  

Brown rice has more nutrients than white and I have found that the short grain brown rice is much softer and easier to digest than other brown rice such as basmati.  

Bottom line is if you need  to eat cheap and want to ensure long term nutrition I would do oatmeal and/or rice and make sure to add some greens, steamed or raw for minerals.  It is very easy to find edible greens growing every where.  For example dandelions and their green leaves are very nutritious.

Very true! Rice is one of the cheapest foods to come by around the world. So yeah if your on a tight budget, you can make it happen with rice and have a healthy lifestyle and layer it with greens. Brocccolli

I love rice, I eat tons of it. It keeps me super slim (5'7'' 120 lbs male).

I always eat tons of fruits first, then rice and steamed vegetables for dinner, I never get tired of rice.

I only eat brown rice always organic. I eat 2 cups dry, so that's 8 serving at once about 1200-1300 calories worth. 

My favorites are brown Basmati rice, only the real kind from India or Pakistan. The US doesn't produce good Basmati IMO. Or the short grain brown rice from the local Japanese market is good as well. 

Ah, yeah no. White rice in particular gives me mouth ulcers. Make sure you eat loads of vegs and certainly don't even think about having only minimal fruit. Recipe for scurry girlfriend. I know rice is cheap but poor health is not cheap. Best of luck Lily
