30 Bananas a Day!

I'd like to start this thread where we can keep a list of published articles related to diet.  Please also list citations that critics of Campbell have included in their arguments.  My plan is to obtain the articles, read them, summarize, and (hopefully) offer meaningful commentary on the studies strengths and weaknesses.

also check out the i-told-you-so thread, a number of recent studies on the health consequences of animal product consumption (cancer, heart disease, obesity, etc) have been made available there, many more to come also.
hey B,

we have all those articles so if veganmama wants, we can find and put them up by category according to her criteria.

actually, we can do better. those docs are pdf files so we can grab the title and text out and put it into a database on the web. that way we can search for article(s) by keywords, view the text and even download the actual pdf docs. kyron and i will look into this tomorrow.

we got these articles from dr greger by making donations to www.mercyforanimals.org and many should be quite suitable for collection in this repository. only the directories the actual articles are stored in are shown, because unfortunately, some of the titles are worded meaninglessly.

if people could actually provide the directory name of items they want to see, we'll just work on getting them from those particular directories. eventually we'll organize all this better most likely in a proper database, but this should get us started at least as far as knowing what people might want to have available.

also see the i told you so thread where some of these articles will be showing up with commentary.

prad

this is great!!
ok just let me know which directories to pull stuff from. we can either upload it to a location of your choice or put things on our server from which people can download them. it is probably not practical to put them all here because you can only upload 3 at a time on any post i think.

here is the 2006 study by Barnard et al,
Effects of a Low-Fat, High-Fiber Diet and Exercise Program on Breast Cancer Risk Factors In Vivo and Tumor Cell Growth and Apoptosis In Vitro

Abstract: The present study investigated the effects of a diet and exercise intervention on known breast cancer (BCa) risk factors, including estrogen, obesity, insulin, and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), in overweight/obese, postmeno- pausal women. In addition, using the subjects' pre- and postintervention serum in vitro, serum-stimulated growth and apoptosis of three estrogen receptorpositive BCa cell lines were studied. The women where placed on a low-fat (1015% kcal), high-fiber (3040 g per 1,000 kcal/day) diet and attended daily exercise classes for 2 wk. Serum estradiol was reduced in the women on hormone treatment (HT; n = 28) as well as those not on HT (n = 10). Serum insulin and IGF-I were significantly reduced in all women, whereas IGF binding protein-1 was increased significantly. In vitro growth of the BCa cell lines was reduced by 6.6% for the MCF-7 cells, 9.9% for the ZR-75-1 cells, and 18.5% for the T-47D cells. Apoptosis was increased by 20% in the ZR-75-1 cells, 23% in the MCF-7 cells, and 30% in the T-47D cells (n = 12). These results show that a very-low-fat, high-fiber diet com- bined with daily exercise results in major reductions in risk factors for BCa while subjects remained overweight/obese. These in vivo serum changes slowed the growth and induced apoptosis in serum-stimulated BCa cell lines in vitro.

Hey guys.

I'm looking for  Ornish D, et al. 2005. Intensive lifestyle changes may affect the progression of prostate cancer. Journal of Urology. 174:1065-70.

Does anyone have a copy of it?

Thanks.

-Andrew

If you do, please email me at Andrew@raw-food-health.net
