I'm about to go to a sushi restaurant with my family so I looked at their menu online to see what I might order and there is absolutely NOTHING that I can order! The only thing that they have available is an avocado salad. I have seen this salad before and it only has a little bit of lettuce and a crapload of avocado. Basically, its just avocado. THe problem is that everyone that works there doesnt speak english very well (we've been there before I was raw) so I dont know how I could even describe what I want to them. What should I do? Should I order the avocado salad or am I better off with a vegetarian roll?
If it were me I would order the avocado salad and ask for more lettuce, keeping the request simple so they would understand.
At some point you have to start setting boundaries with your parents, this might be a good opportunity to practice that. "Mom I Iove you and would like to go out and have nice time at the sushi place but if the fact that I will be eating my own food will cause us to not enjoy ourselves then I will have to not go." You can bring your own tupper wear full of fruit, another thing people have done at nice restaurants is call ahead and tell them you will be coming in with your family and are on a special diet and would like to bring in a water melon for the kitchen to prepare. They might not understand exactly but when you show up with it they will probably get it, lol. Also hand them some money with the fruit you give them to prepare.
if it were me i wouldnt eat anything
id eat when i got home
Maybe you could ask for a bowl of brown rice?
Eat some miso soup and some edamame...Enjoy your family...Your desire to keep harmony between your family is quite respectable...You can stay completely vegan at a sushi restaurant...don't trip paper clip!!!
I'm so to say, but miso isn't vegan. They boil the stock with bonito and fish. Not to mention that it's very high in salt.
I know how you feel. Eat before hand, this is your choice, and you have every right to choose what goes in your mouth. They make their choices, you have made yours. Eventually, they will learn that you cannot be deterred and they will get over it. The sooner you let them know this, the sooner they will learn to accept it. Good luck. Be vegan, be strong.
Order some water, and tell them your not hungry. :) I do it all the time. Or just ask for some light veggies. Honestly its not worth freaking out over, especially if its going to cause you stress. :)
