I'm about to go to a sushi restaurant with my family so I looked at their menu online to see what I might order and there is absolutely NOTHING that I can order! The only thing that they have available is an avocado salad. I have seen this salad before and it only has a little bit of lettuce and a crapload of avocado. Basically, its just avocado. THe problem is that everyone that works there doesnt speak english very well (we've been there before I was raw) so I dont know how I could even describe what I want to them. What should I do? Should I order the avocado salad or am I better off with a vegetarian roll?
bring some fruit along? Problem solved!
What if that ruins the harmony of the interaction? My family is very critical of me for eating raw already. My mom saw me eating 10 bananas this morning and FREAKED OUT! I fear that this will cause a lot of negative emotion. I'm trying to find something to order and still keep the harmony of the family event. Any other suggestions?
I like your thoughts Rudy, on the torcher of animals and eating them.
Sorry, but I think you're too radical about being vegan. I wouldn't want to hurt my family because of my opinion about food, I don't think it's worth it. What if we take this a little bit further? "I don't listen to some people's words because they ate meat?"
No one takes people who can't tolerate others seriously. If you act like nazi, you'll look like you're trying to prove something to yourself.
Me and my family are strongly against any event where animals get hurt. They eat dairy, and of course I would be glad if they didn't. But you mustn't accuse people of participating in killing animals.
If you want people to try to understand you, have some respect for them. The best way you can spread veganism is by being an example to others.
I somewhat agree with Yauzich.... you need to pick your battles very wisely and be careful what ammo you choose.
Alienating your family like that is a massive mistake. They won't appreciate it even if what you say is true. You will only hurt them and it isn't worth it. It's a very sensitive issue for people, no matter which side of the fence they are on. Both parties should be respectful and peaceful about it. You can't expect family and friends to have respect for you if you can't be respectful to them.
Lead by example and show nothing but love. If you become hostile people won't want to be around you. How are you going to get them to go Vegan if that happens, huh? lol
Yes, love is everything. Bring joy to people, and they'll agree to bring joy to you.
And anyways, family meals are not about food. Sometimes it's hard when you get looked at because you don't eat what others do, but start a good conversation, and that'll show people that food doesn't matter - it's being together that does, and who knows, maybe the people who look at you will think: "if all vegans are like this, I think I' want to be one".
But you mustn't accuse people of participating in killing animals.
why not, yauzich?
that's what they are doing.
specifically, those eating courtesy of the corpse industries support the imprisonment, exploitation, abuse and murder of animals.
why shouldn't they be held accountable for what they do?
You would not be the cause of the critical atmosphere/lack of harmony, the family that criticizes would.
Very well said.
Just get vegetarian rolls, eating out for one meal isn't going to kill you! Nobody eats this diet 100% of the time 365 days out of the year.
