30 Bananas a Day!

I have been eating this style of eating for about 4 days. HCRV cooked at dinner. Last night I mono ate a melon and had terrible heart burn! The only thing I ate prior to the melon was 5 bananas about 2 hours before. This morning I woke up and had 4 bananas and had bad indigestion again...burning!?! It took about a half hour each time to go away. It burns bad I am looking for a solution. Why would fruit burn so bad? I remember when I was a kid I stopped drinking Coca-Cola  because it would have the same effect:(

I do have liver cirrhosis. I haven't found any vegan food that I have been eating for the last years to give me any heart burn except what I just experienced in the last 2 days!

Guidance would be appreciated.

Hey Brad

Cooked is at night:) Thanks for throwing that out there.

The burning happened again today at about 11am I only had 3 bananas because I was scared that if I ate to much it would burn...I was just fine with the 3 bananas. At 3pm I had about 10 dates and felt fine so I felt confidant to have more. I waited about a half hour and had 5 more dates and it burned like hell:(

Most likely you have an extra sensitive digestive system and it is slow right now which would result in the fruit running into your last meal causing you problems.  Dr. Doug usually puts people on banana island to start with as it is very healing and has many other benefits, (if your banana meal runs into the last banana meal it won't cause problems).  Banana Islanders

Two other major things on the 811 lifestyle that are important are water and sleep

Both have a huge impact on digestion and overall health.  The book Your Body's Many Cries for Water is a great read.  And some good videos here on the importance of sleep.

With your condition I would consider consulting Dr. Doug @ http://foodnsport.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&pro...  or Grant Campbell @ http://www.rawreference.com/about/AboutRawAussieAthlete.html

The liver weighs about 3 pounds and is the largest solid organ in the body. It performs many important functions, such as:

  • Manufacturing blood proteins that aid in clotting, oxygen transport, and immune system function
  • Storing excess nutrients and returning some of the nutrients to the bloodstream
  • Manufacturing bile, a substance needed to help digest food
  • Helping the body store sugar (glucose) in the form of glycogen
  • Ridding the body of harmful substances in the bloodstream, including drugs and alcohol
  • Breaking down saturated fat and producing cholesterol

Cirrhosis is a slowly progressing disease in which healthy liver tissue is replaced with scar tissue, eventually preventing the liver from functioning properly. The scar tissue blocks the flow of blood through the liver and slows the processing of nutrients, hormones, drugs, and naturally produced toxins. It also slows the production of proteins and other substances made by the liver. http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/cirrhosis-liver

Thanks Ednshell for throwing some ideas at me.

It happened again...it just does not stop. Now sheez I am open minded but the proof is in the pain from my personal experience. Now I have many years experience with food combining and with getting good amounts of sleep, drinking plenty of water. I am not new to health but new to RVHC fruit style eating. I am spending to much time in physical pain...I haven't ever felt this way in SEVERAL YEARS from eating the vegan food I have ingested. For me, doing something over and over again that physically HURTS and expecting different results is INSANITY!!!  food can't be this complicated and painful. I considered trying this because I thought it would make my life lighter and simpler not painful and frustrating.

It is not complicated once you understand it, kind of like driving. ;)  You might ask Dr. Doug over on http://www.vegsource.com/talk/raw/ about how your liver issue might  be effecting your fruit digestion and what simplest step you could take to remedy this problem you are having.  HCRV is the best for the body and with a healing liver I would try to do it.  If I were you I'd give banana island a try. It is a pretty straight forward concept that if you have a sensitive or compromised digestive system as you do with your liver cirrhosis that you will have to be careful with changing your diet and do so in the gentlest way possible.

Also, you say you drink plenty of water, I've heard that one before. ;)  The real question is do you pee 10+ times in a 24 hour period and/or pee clear or close to it?  This is the only objective way we have to measure true hydration.

Keep trying, just make some adjustments. :)

I pee about every 2 hrs. Thanks I will check out the Doug Graham link you posted:)

I have similar problems with heartburn and bananas.

My theory: the fruit isn't as high water content as it would be if it were fresh and local, I think it gets dried out, and I think dates have the same problem, I know that I have gotten some dates that were realllly gooey and delicious and some that were not anywhere near as MOIST (love that word ;) and I've had similar experiences with some bananas being more dry than others.

I've compromised and try to do mostly smoothies with bananas, adding a generous amount of water and blending well. That works better for me personally.

Hope this helps.

Hi J,

I've had heart burn as well after (and before) living this lifestyle.  In my experience, the heart burn happened especially following any physical activity and usually when I had citrus fruits.  I have had a history of digestive disorder and think it's probably a result of a weak digestive system.  I work towards avoiding irritation by excluding the fruits and vegs that seem to irritate it.  I did experience that once the heart burn has been induced, it will continue for a few days until the irritation goes away regardless of what I am eating.  I would suggest giving it time, avoid anything that irritates it, and let your body do what it does best.  I did fast with Doug in Costa Rica, and it seems to have allowed my body to heal the sensitives.  Healing does take time!

Much love!

Neda

Hey I used to get this too when I first started this lifestyle. It went on for about 5 months and I had it at least 5 times a week. I used to get it the most when I ate melons, or when i ate anything too quickly. Other than eating too fast I didn't know why I was getting and put it down as a symptom of my IBS. But then after a while and as I was able to fit more food in my stomach at a time it started going. I still have it maybe once a month but I'm sure it's when I eat too fast aha

Thanks Neda and Kezi.

I will try eating slower. Doug Graham was kind enough to write back and said to drink a glass of water before the meal and that might help...he didn't say why it would work but he did say to try it.

Oh yes that makes sense it will help with digestion. My heart burn is better now I drink 4L a day, didnt think of that ;)

Hi JNickels!

In my experience, I have found that eating the highest water content foods first and progressively having less water content foods. For example, if I had to eat bananas, watermelon and mangos, I would eat the watermelon first, then the mangos and last the bananas. Since higher water content fruits digest easier and pass through the intestines quicker (especially melons), having them after other fruits might create a bottleneck situation that could lead to heartburn. Chewing foods as thoroughly as possible can help keep things moving. Hope this helps!

Much love,
George
