30 Bananas a Day!

So, here's the newest thing that comes from Germany - a country I sadly call my neighbors since I'm Austrian: It's called "Meine Kleine Farm - Wir geben Fleisch ein Gesicht" (transl. "My Little Farm - We Give Meat A Face"), an online meat-ordering service where customers can select their favorite pig to get slaughtered and made into bite-sized meat chunks.

But they didn't stop there. In memory of the sacrifice the pig made for the consumer to have a tasty meal of heart attack sausage, they put the piggy's photo on the packaging...

Dennis Buchmann, who came up with the idea has declared that he "is on a mission to change the way consumers think about meat. He thinks people should eat less meat and show more respect to the animals."

Their Website (in German): http://www.meinekleinefarm.org/

I mean it's great that he tries to show where the sausage came from to the consumer, who seems to have completely forgotten that meat products actually come from living, breathing beings.

If he really wanted to make consumers change their viewpoint and have respect for the animals, then he should be sending them a DVD with the full horrific depiction of how they killed that poor little pig.
Maybe consumers can select in which way to exactly slaughter the poor thing next. Rod to the brain? Slashing the throat? There will be an extra charge for that, of course...

But, Dennis unfortunately  "doesn’t want to make consumers feel bad about eating meat"... I think that he just failed his mission...

This story just made me so mad, I can't even sill still right now! WTF???

What do you 30BaDers think?

Genius! The perfect reply.

greetings sylvie! and welcome to 30bad!

you make a good point here:

all this respect for animals that you eat is part and parcel of some indigenous fiction where the natives apparently treated their victims with such reverence that these willingly gave up their lives for the cause to further humanity into some state of bliss.

all this is part of the great foo-foo.

your victim doesn't want your respect.

your victim just wants his/her life.

Exactly what I was thinking, Prad!...

Just the term 'foo-foo' wasn't in my vocabulary yet. Thank you for teaching me a new word =D

The fact that they put the image of the slaughtered animal on the product and you can even select which pig you can get slaughtered and chopped up , should deter so many people already from buying and consuming, imo. But maybe that's just me...

The fact that they put the image of the slaughtered animal on the product

i think that's just the problem - they put up the picture of the unslaughtered animal.

this is happy pig fiction.

the dairy clowncil in usa runs a happy cow campaign.

a barbecue sauce ad has happy steer appreciating the fine flavoring.

a tuna ad has happy fish who can hardly wait to get into the can.

here's a more anthropocentric canadian twist to the same idea:

family behind the farm

happy meat just makes everyone just oooooze happiness!

how many ways to pull the wool over the consumers' eyes?

that's what marketing is there to do!

if you show the reality either here:

the humane myth

or here:

animal processing horrors

people can come to grips with what their food choices actually involve.

it must give that dennis the warm fuzzies to think people should eat less meat and respect animals.

by such logic, we should buy less sweat shop products and respect the slaves being forced to work in them. then we can all feel warm and fuzzy inside like dennis et al.

Oh, he must feel really good about himself, yes. His big smile while holding the yet to be slaughtered piggy proved that...

Misleading and false marketing, which almost all corporations nowadays do, makes me angry. Telling the sheeple some nice fairy tales to profit on their naivete, guilt and indifference.

Humans are quite the interesting species, don't you think?...

Ha! Humane killing... LOL

Humans are quite the interesting species, don't you think?...

yes they are, but we must remember that some of them transform into a worthier destiny, so we must acknowledge that, as we do here:

the new lothlorian

there are yet many skirmishes ahead, sylvie - but the war is won!

nice chatting with you!

in friendship,

prad

Ah! Lothlorien would be my paradise *sigh*

I hope we can achieve that someday, Prad. I really do.

Thanks for your input, friend!
Ciao for now.

I went to the website... It is so sad and twisted... But at the same time if I was a meat eater then visiting that site would make me think twice about eating meat... I dunno. I don't know how I feel about it.

It is indeed very twisted and disturbing, Lenore.
I can't imagine that people wouldn't be shocked about this marketing strategy. And they seem to love this in Germany. One of our most popular talk show hosts was raving about it. Ugh...

I can't sufficiently express my surprise and indignation upon reading this.
