My local supermarket suprisingly has just started selling persimons £1 for 3 so I bought a couple of packets to try I have no idea what to expect but could someone please tell me how I can tell if they are ripe! are they like mangoes? they are quite hard at the moment! should I wait til they are soft like a mango? also how should they taste? Sweet?
they are sweet like dates ^_^ even sweet when less soft. but for me the softer the better. i notice when i eat a starchier (less soft, little crunchy) persimmon, i have the effects of indigestion (little gassy, burpy).
but there are No rules for eating [fuyu / japanese / common] persimmons:
if you like them softer - go for it :-)
if you like them oozy and pudding-like - have at it
if you like them crunchier with decipherable segments - cool beans
Fuyu should be firm, hachiya should be a falling-apart, ooey gooey mess!
Could someone please tell me which variety this is then? many thanks!! it says they are Rojo brillante on the packaging
