30 Bananas a Day!

The standard population thinks coconut oil is healthy for you, and even beneficial to your health. What they don't know is this...

Coconut oil does raise cholesterol just not as much in a fast amount of time.

It is by all means largely saturated fat.

Dr. Greger points this out in the links above.

I can see what you are saying...because coconut oil is just one isolated part of the food, rather than the whole food which is a perfect package when eaten all at once. However, I don't think it's horrible for your health or particularly dangerous because in your body, it will be a liquid almost water consistency...so I don't see how it can really clog anything?

Yes I agree, if you just eat the oil by itself, it's not good for you. If you eat the whole coconut that is healthy, also I'm sure it takes many coconuts to produce a little bit of coconut oil. I didn't understand how coconut oil could clog arteries either, it doesn't clog as much of course as pure butter diet, as Dr. Greger points out, but coconut OIL is saturated fat.

True, and it's a good point you made about how many coconuts it would take.....to make a typical "serving" of coconut oil, it would probably take more coconuts than you could ever eat at once!!

I think a good quality oil eaten in moderation is fine, has to be unrefined, organic, cold pressed, raw quality, i add about a teaspoon to deserts like "coconut balls" (which i don't eat on a daily basis but every now and then or if some friends are coming over)

You're welcome to consume what you will, Cassy, but it's not something we recommend here.  See "why"

whole coconut flesh is a better choice

Oh that's cool! Yeah I'm sure it is great for cats since they are carnivores and their diet is based on saturated fat (coconut oil is saturated fat also). That's funny though I'm sure lol watching them lick it up.

Just an FYI, Hannah, cats are not pure carnivores.  They are purrfectly capable of thriving on a properly balanced entirely vegan diet.  You'll see plenty of proof links in here of how to do it right:
