30 Bananas a Day!

Heres a stitch of my story, (please forgive for the long intro)

I was diagnosed with MS (booo!!) in 2008, and was told I needed all sorts of chemicals and steroids to keep me a going.

I decided to run (quickly) away from modern medicine and instead try some natural(ish) ideas and the like.

I started by taking vit suppliments and eating "better".

Well, over the last two years my eating "better" has grown from eating more veggies, to no red meat, to no nitrates, to no meat at all, to avoiding this and that, yada yada.

I have found that eating the most low fat (particularly helpful for persons with MS, figured out by a Dr. Swank) vegan raw lifestyle has almost completely rid me of my symptoms.

Now here's the little obstical... Hrmm.. I have some friends see, and we really don't converse all that much anymore because of what I am apparently "doing to myself." They tell me through mouthfuls of french fries and greasy hamburgers that I am killing myself, and refuse to look at ANY stastical data.

They think I need to march down the the Dr. right now and get me some cortisteroids for my veins.

Have you ever encountered resistance from friends? I really don't have any friends "like me" I guess.

They are the go out and party it up kinda friends, and I am more the lets go for a hike or play in the dirt and plant trees kinda friend.

I guess it's great to have a place like this where you can have online aquantances to share problems and the like with. :)

Sorry for my rant, just new to all of this, and kind of blown away that there really ARE more people like me in this world, and not everyone thinks of this lifestyle as crazy. :)

So, hi! I'm Clover, nice to meet you!

Do you have friends in real life that support you?

If your friends or family don't support you, what do you say/do?

How did you fall into this lifestyle?
What are your favorite things to eat?
Do you dehydrate?

I am glad I am not alone in this venture!
Thanks again apple-man.

Be prepared for the ride of your life
WOW congrats on the getting others to assimilate :), especially the meat eating boyfriend! :D
MMMmmm dirt. :)
I wouldn't worry about your friends.
I lost around 90% my friends when I went vegan. I don't believe my attitude changed, although with veganism you can't help but think a little different, right?
I have new friends now, friends who not only support me, but follow a similar lifestyle. You really have to wonder if your "friends" were true friends to begin with if they're willing to end the relationship simply because you changed your diet!

You'll find that once you start the lfrv lifestyle, you to attract those who are like minded. 30bad certainly helps also! Keep with it.
I agree 30bad helps but I think it would be great to live within a community of fruit lovers, sometimes it can be a bit isolating not knowing anyone who eats lots of fruit. I am going to have to focus on attracting the like minded I think!
It would be great to live in a large community of lfrv huh? we could support each other and succeed with gusto! :D :D
very very true, and thanks for the hope of finding supportive people! :)
Hi! I am 22 years old (23 in August!) I started with a "relapsing remitting" diagnosis, and quickly (within two months) fell down to progressive relapsing.

I got worse and worse all of that first year, and once I cut All animal flesh and product, and went extremely low fat/satuated fat, within 6 months all symptoms dissapated. I got lucky I guess! :)

I am thrilled at the prospect of meeting new people, because honestly, I believe that the set of friends I have now... Need to be... Umm cleansed?

Thank you for posting, I really appreciate it :)
Hi Clover,
Welcome to 30BAD. This is the place to come to feel accepted and supported. I come here almost every day. None of my friends are 811. However, my husband is lfvegan and high raw and fully supports me in this endeavor. My sister was diagnosed with MS 10 years ago. I have been talking to her about diet for years. Last year she was diagnosed with lymphoma and really started to listen to me. She is eating lots of raw now and trying to take better care of herself. It's great that you have been proactive with your illness. I think the MS drugs are pretty harsh and best avoided. Keep going on this track and come here for support and understanding.

Take care,
