30 Bananas a Day!

Just curious, if people are in the "pickle" of having no ripe organic fruit, and not finding any at stores, do you go for the ripe conventional fruit?  Or do you eat cooked sweet potatoes or things like that until your fruit ripens?  I try not to come into this dilemma anymore, but im still getting the hang of things.  My very green banana box still hasnt ripened, and there were literally 0 organic bananas at the store i went to after work.  I bought more frozen mangos, but its a pain.  

 

What would you do in this situation, or what have you done.  Do you go for conventionally grown fruit, frozen, or cooked potatoes or something along those lines?

Definitely conventional.
Conventional fruit with thick skins like bananas, oranges, melons and such is still a pretty good option. In fact I eat conventional most of the time! :)
Well said! I know organic IS better - usually the best tasting stuff is the always what comes from my own garden, but until I an afford to move to the tropics I still feel all the benefits of this diet from living off of good quality conventional fruit with organic bits where i can.

Most 30BaD members would probably have starved to death at this point if they only ate organic.

 

I can currently afford to eat organic maybe 20 % of the time. That will change as I'm moving out of the UK.

Try it for yourself:

go for one week on conventional fruit and for another week - on cooked vegan organic and compare how you feel.

Conventional. I have found some conventional honestly tastes better than some organic produce. Some conventional produce isn't labeled as organic, but is just the same pesticide free.
I've experimented both ways and feel better on lower quality fruit than"healthy" cooked food. I had the hardest time wrapping my mind around that in the beginning.
should i avoid the "dirty dozen" on that pesticide lst completely if it isnt organic??

I eat all organic.  Earth bananas are sold as conventional but they are actually much higher quality than Dole organic and are grown more sustainably.  So it depends on the quality of the fruit, some conventional locally grown melons I have gotten taste like a sponge, very low quality, some ripe conventional  produce has burned my tongue from the pesticide residue.  

 

For me, just to get me through a few days, I would get a bunch of raw dates, non-pitted are your best bet, you can test for rawness by putting a piece in Hydrogen peroxide and if it bubbles then they are raw.  If you don't want to do a few days on datorade island as Freelee did here Datorade for 7 days. then I would get some frozen organic fruits that are highest in caloires.

No doubt people still get all the benefits of 811 on conventional but there is a difference in quality, I go by taste as well as getting information from the grower.  Of course growing your own is the best, using rock dust. http://remineralize.org/  I am about to go the same route with working with a wholesaler to get the best produce, I will ask every farmer if they use rock dust.

Yes, this is what I'd like to do this winter is at least grow my own greens, it should be easy right? :)
