So I finally made the life changing decision, or so it seems to be life changing (at least for me) to go vegan, and raw to boot! This is after suffering from a load of health issues mostly related to lack of stress management and MS.
For the last 5 years I've been taking care of other people, very close and dear to me people, like my mother after my dad passed away in a car accident in 2008, and now my two little nephews who are 10 and 12. All this time, I've put myself on the back seat and now my body and health are reaping all that neglect.
I have constant nerve pain in my legs and arms, stomach aches, anxiety, aches and pains throughout due to a huge weight increase within the last few years, about 65lbs. I'm at the point that all of these constant things have worn me down and not just physically but emotionally. I really feel like I've let myself down, and it makes me really depressed to not be able to do all the things that I'd like to do. I now normally just come home and crash.
So, that's why this past Saturday, after not being able to sleep all night due to digestion issues, I decided to do a YouTube Video to kick off my new phase in life and then as soon as daylight came I rushed to the nearest chapters to get my very own copy of the 80/10/10 book.
Fast forward to today, I don't have any digestion issues that make me run to the bathroom anymore, although i have been eating a few more bites, and my stomach feels really sore for a few minutes after that... but other than that I've also been sleeping really REALLY well.
I'm currently on page 130 of the book, but I have one nagging question about calorie intake. Dr. Graham's plans suggest a less than 2000 calorie (or so it seems). On the other hand I keep hearing everyone say that I should be consuming at least 3000 calories? Which is it? At the moment I'm not active, and if I am it's to minimal capacity due to lack of energy, and just not feeling well. I have an office job and I've stopped all medication for MS as of two years (since moving to the states, since moving to the states from my beautiful Canada).
So that's me in a nutshell... Did I mention that I'm really excited to be here! :-)
By the way, I'm really hoping to find a support buddy/mentor to help me through this phase in my life, I can't promise payment of any sort, but I am an extremely fast typer and super fast to answer emails as I'm in front of a computer most of the day (unfortunately)... and did I mention I'm a good listener/reader too?! :-)
I'm also new to raw and I agree the 80/10/10 book is a little confusing regarding the amount of calories you should aim for. As long as you are following 811 and mostly eating fruit, I don't think you should be concerned about calories at all, instead just focus on eating enough in order to feel satisfied and avoid cravings/hunger throughout the day. If you are getting hungry or craving food, you are not eating enough. And from there, you'll see the amount of calories your body is needing.
Thanks Zac! That's actually really helpful. I'm going to have to make a point of keeping fruit around at all times just in case.
HELLO, MEL :D
What's your fave fruit?
It's called Zapote, I had it when I was in Mexico, and the best thing I've ever tasted!
Welcome!! This is sooooo exciting! I just changed to 80-10-10 just over a month ago and it was the best decision of my life. I am constantly on the go and usually on the computer (as I am a student) so if you ever need someone to talk to or share recipes with/tips about fruit, I'd love to help!
love fruit love life :)
Thanks Carley! So I'm really curious to know how your switch is going? Have you had any issues? What improvements are you seeing?
