30 Bananas a Day!

Dear all,

My name is Maria, I'm from South Africa! I've already learnt so much from this site, and I'm really hoping to transform my life and health with this lifestyle. I've been struggling with bulimia for a very large part of my life, and I'm soooo ready to leave all that self hatred, guilt and abuse behind.... I know that the HCRV lifestyle is going to work for me long term - just hope I can get through these first stages without freaking out too much about weight gain. If anyone has a similar history and can give me some advice on coping mentally in the beginning, I'd love to hear from you!

Love to all,

Maria xXx

Hi Maria, welcome to 30BaD! I was bulimic myself for around 15 years (from my early teens to well into my twenties). By the time I came to this lifestyle I had already made significant strides toward recovery by working with various self-help techniques, but I was still relapsing often as well as gaining weight rapidly due to frequently binging on junk food.

Anyhow, the two techniques that helped and still help me most are EFT (emotional freedom techniques) and Releasing. EFT, also called 'tapping', involves using your fingers to tap various points on your face and torso. You can learn EFT free on the net @ www.emofree.com, plus there are lots of youtube videos on it as well. It's great to relieve stress and reduce fears and negative emotions. I have written about Releasing here http://www.30bananasaday.com/forum/topics/any-releasers-here-on-30bad

Another thing that helps me is to keep reminding myself that I'm in this for the long haul and that it will take time for my body and mind to heal. Watching supportive youtube videos, reading (e)book on veganism and/or high carb living and being active on this forum also help as does supplementing with vitamins B12 and D. I copy inspiring posts from this forum to a file on my computer and reread them often. The trick is finding things that work for you and most of all, to be patient with yourself :-)

Best of luck,sheepmobile

Thanks a million Sheepmobile, your advice is really great! I'll definitely be looking into those techniques you mentioned. Much appreciated :-)

Hi Maria

Welcome!

Nice to see someone else in Cape Town interested in this lifestyle. :-)

My partner and I are both vegan (with me trying to be fruity). We work in Rondebosch and live in Somerset West.

Thanks for your reply Lydia! I'm also delighted to hear there's someone else from Cape Town :-) How's the fruit diet working for you? I'm not 100% there yet - raw til 4 at the moment, but hoping to go fully raw soon. Where do you buy your fruit - Fruit&Veg? Lovely hearing from you. :-)

Hi Marie

I was 100% hclf raw last year for two months, but unfortunately blew it when we moved to Somerset West. Directly after that I was still eating mostly raw with tonnes of fruit, but had massive weight gain within one month after eating just a few vegan ‘cheat’ meals. I am currently also doing raw till 4 and hope to manage fully raw again soon (mostly to alleviate severe depression).

I buy most of my fruit from an old fashioned family-owned veg shop in Somerset West. I find most fruit in the general supermarkets very disappointing.

We lived towards Simons Town last year, and I really miss being able to shop from Organic Zone in Muizenburg.

Fruit (and lots of it) is really the answer. I’m sure you’ll do fantastic on the lifestyle!

Thanks Lydia, for all the info and support. Really hope you'll get the depression under control soon! Good luck and stay in touch :-)

Hi Maria, I came with a similar background. For the first time in 15 years I am beginning to feel nearly normal with food and better about my body image. I attribute it to a spiritual way of life and this way of eating. Message me anytime for support. Happy to share any of my experience if it will help :)

Thanks a million Sarah - I will definitely :-)

Hola Maria and welcome! You've come to the right place to get back to health. Wish you the best of luck on your journey and I'm sure you'll find many people who have come from a bulimic background who can help!

Thanks Alex :-) I'm super excited and loving spending time here, reading through all the posts. And I can already feel my energy levels rising from eating loads of fruit and combining properly!

Awesome! Glad to hear that :)
