I'm going to be in Orlando for first week in January for a convention. Then our family wanted to travel south in Florida and perhaps go to the florida keys. We need rest rest rest and would like to see some beautiful nature. We are not big into entertainment and tons of people/crowds. So please if anyone has any information please share.
I was thinking we could get a home rental along the ocean for a week somewhere south in florida. Then we discussed the Keys. We've never been to the keys. Does anyone know if there are good places to rent a cottage/home on the keys that is reasonable? Is it easy to get decent vegan food and especially raw fruits/veggies there (are prices high or decent?).? My family would like to see some birds they've never seen. They've talked about going to Flamingo, Fl. Again never been there. Just wondering what is worth seeing, where is it quiet and restful?
In orlando, where are there decent places to buy fruits/veggies and vegan food. The family is vegan. Three are high raw fruit eaters.
Thanks for any help. I appreciate it.
flamingo is a wild and beautiful place everglades look like parts of africa its wild and it can be very buggy
lots of water birds there : ) the light is amazing
Thanks for sharing.
Look up Rawbert, one of our PK's here, and a FL dweller
the east side of south florida is crowded and anything on the beach I'd imagine would be pricy house wise anyhow. Down in the keys I cant recall specifics but I stayed in plenty of resorts over the years with there own private beaches etc.. all where really laid back places. Laid back is basicly the atmosphere down there. We rented a house boat once down there that was awesome you can sleep at hte dock or take it out. we took it out slept out on the open waters just anchored on the gulf side get up go swimming and snorkling just jump off the boat etc..
Everglades national park is cool plenty of birds to see there or in the keys. Also if you took a boat at chuskoluskee 10,000 islands area (west side of the state) lots of wild life to see its a big fishing area but if thats not your thing there is lots of birds etc.. to see.
The keys isnt as bad but some of the more inland places everglades park and chuskoluskee are heavy on mosquitos etc.. THat was one reason we took the houseboat out on the water as well there are less mosquitos out over the water etc..
Thanks for all the information. Hopefully the misquotes aren't too bad.
are there good places in the keys to purchase fresh fruit/veggies
I couldnt say its been years since I was there. I know central fl obviously has citrus and I know in kendall there was a strawberry farm i hit a few times. But for the most part I think the keys is more of a seafood type of place. not that there isnt fruit just not farm fresh per say. Some of the bars and such i'd imagine can wip up some smoothies. I know places in miami where they have piles of fruit you can have wipped into smoothie etc.. I'd imagine you might find stuff like that and you can tell them to pass ont he booze.
