30 Bananas a Day!

Hello friends!

I'm here out of concern for my boyfriend. We are both vegan ( I'm mostly high carbed cooked but still make a lot if mistakes and he.. Well he lives on gluten free vegan Mac and cheese from the frozen aisle. I need to give a back story on him.. For the past 8 years he's been sick going to the hospital 1 to 10 times a month with severe abdominal pain and non stop nausea and vomiting. They've diagnosed him with cyclical vomiting syndrome. (Its basically and abdominal migraine) I also think he has some ibs related health issues because it seems like going to the bathroom is usually the thing that triggers the episode. I know in my heart that this lifestyle will help him so much, and he even did it for a couple weeks and said "he felt like a god". The problem was he couldn't eat enough and went back to cooked foods. He's about 105 lbs or less and 5'9" I will try to find some pictures.
Anyways, he's in the hospital again today and I'm trying to convince him to let's both get on fruit but his parents are so concerned about protein that they are wanting him to eat meat! We obviously don't want that to happen but he needs help. He can go days or weeks without eating because he's afraid of getting sick. He usually just eats French fries and tht Mac and cheese or nothing. I'm guessing he eats around 700 calories a day and when I try to feed him he gets irritated with me. When we try to eat fruit he gets full on half a mango or 1 banana. To those of you who have gained a substantial amount of weight how did you do it? Should I have him eating a banana every hour until he can handle more? He also never drinks water! Will drinking more water give him an appetite? Sorry this is so long but I just need help. For one water is key. He is most likely having a lot of absorption issues so lots of water. Try to have him start adding more fruit into his diet, whatever he feels confortable with. Calories are important but at this level are not a main concern. Also try products like spirulina or vitamineral greens by healthforce. These products are loaded with the most high quality proteins and minerals. Encorporating somthing like spirulina into his diet would give him solid nutrition without him having to eat anything. There is a lot more to this and a lot more I could say so feel free to ask questions. I hope this helps

Thanks Will, that seems like a good idea. He needs the most nutrients right now for the smallest amount of food I feel. What do you think of juicing fruit and veg for awhile just to make it easier to get the calls and vitamins / minerals? I know he'll be missing out on fiber but maybe just one juice a day?

Do what you gotta do to get his energy up / calories up so his cells can *FUNCTION*! That's number one. Water and sugar. Do what you gotta do. As soon as you can introduce more and more healthy food. Personally he sounds fussy so I would just go with juice boxes all day and introduce as much fruit as he will have slowly over time. Carbs make a sane mind. All vitamins and no carbs makes Jack a crazy mofo.

PS he's going to need heaps especially in the first weeks his body is going to suck up those carbs like nuts. Don't hold back.

Yeah it's part of the conditions of this site that you don't promote that here. I used to use it, but no longer need to after discovering this lifestyle. Our vitamin / mineral requirements are far different on a vegan diet than what they are on a SAD diet. SAD diet is what is used to determine most "requirements" of these things. 

I disagree, if he's on 700 calories a day WTF is that!? I get from 2500 - 3500 a day and that's only cause I don't do much exercise just now. ANY less and I feel bad that day or the next day, and feel better soon as I eat more. Water is primary but also primary at this stage is easy calories. If you go on less than that you will get hospitalized and what will they do there but pump calories into you via intravenous glucose drip to keep you *alive*. Frankly if he has to drink sugar water to supply his brain and organs with the most basic macro nutrient = glucose, then that's going to be far better than nothing. If not sure, ask someone whose starving to death, and that's basically what he's doing. Carbing up by whatever means necessary at this stage will enable healing to take place which will mean he can start to eat again.

Why doesn't he just get onto some sugary organic juice boxes and just drink those all day long, that will help with hydration and calories in one go.
