30 Bananas a Day!

I've been melon free for a few weeks now. I knew for sure I had a watermelon problem, but now it appears it might be all melons :(

I had Honeydew for breakfast this morning. Only two pounds of edible was consumed. Here's how I describe my melon experience....

Imagine all your blood leaves your upper body, and transfers into your lower. My stomach and legs get very heavy, making me feel lethargic. Just drained!

I'm posting this for newbies, because it had me second guessing LFRV right off the bat. It had totally killed my performance and my heart rate was really high.

I clean up melons pretty good. Am I maybe digging too much into the rind? Could maybe just sticking to the sweeter stuff in the middle help? I think I remember trying eating from the center of a big watermelon and felt the same by the time I got to the rind.

I bought two cantaloupe today, so they will be the next test. I love melons, I'd hate to have to pretty much stop eating them.

too bad.... taste so much better as well. I can now buy 6 of them for 20 euros.
I used to get sugar rushes, which I believe were due to high blood sugar and too much insulin production, which can be potentially very dangerous. I used to get them all the time from eating melons, pears, mangoes and apple juice, causing me to feel dizziness, pains in my chest and nearly passing out on several occasions. I even got them when I ate more than a dozen oranges by sucking the juice out of them without eating the fiber. I got them when I was a strict fruitarian and already a long term vegan for many years. I'd recommend staying away from the melons for anyone suffering from sugar rushes. Limit intake of fruit juices. Even freshly squeezed fruit juice taken over the long term can lead to high blood sugar and insulin levels. If you want to taste fruit, eat whole fruit, not the juice. The fiber, vitamins, and minerals that come with whole fruit help to slow down the pace at which the natural sugars from fruit enter your bloodstream. Get lots of greens. I found it helpful to eat nuts and avocadoes. Make non-starchy vegetables the foundation of your diet. Dark green leafy lettuce, tomatoes, celery, cucumber, cabbage, kale, spinach, Swiss chard, bok choy, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, and all unmentioned green vegetables are excellent choices. These will help to normalize the blood sugar. Do activities and exercises that build or maintain your muscles. Muscle tissue acts as a storage site for extra sugar. The more muscle tissue you have, the better you can regulate your blood sugar and insulin levels. The riper the fruit, the more fruit sugar it has. Unripe fruit will be more acidic and eating large quantities of unripe citrus and pineapples can cause severe tooth decay. I know, as I speak from experience. For those who can eat as much fruit as they want and don't experience sugar rushes, I envy you. It's a very painful, scary experience.
Hi Grok,

I'm just realizing this summer that I have a problem with melons too. So sad! I love them so much. And I feel good initially following the melon meal, but then in the next couple days I feel really off. My appetite becomes huge, I retain water, and I feel like I get low blood sugar and feel weak and weird. It's not pleasant.

I'm still not sure - I have to do more experimenting. But reading over my journal, I see all these effects coming in when I start adding in melons. I kept wondering why every August I would feel unbalanced and weird on this diet. I'm only now starting to realize that it's probably melons (this is my third summer, so I think I'm a little slow to catch on, lol.)

I'll be sad to give them up, but it will be worth it to feel better. And hopefully it's not forever. I hope you are able to enjoy them now. Good luck!
