My bone density - My plan/goal to reverse osteoporosis

I had my appointment at the end of last month by my orthopedic doctor. My pelvis was x-rayed because I've been having muscle pains in my hip and thigh and sometimes my back since January. The doctor showed me the x-ray. When I was previously by his colleague, I was able to share my story about being anorexic for 11 years and finding HCRV (12 May 2012), which saved my life. He reacted positively, but said it takes a while for bone density to go back to where it should be, as I damaged mine very badly through the anorexia. My doctor explained the x-ray to me. He said, it is not SO terrible. He meant my joints are in good shape, but my bone density is still low (I was able to recognise that because they saw a bit ghost-like instead of solid). I am aware that my bone density doesn't improve over night, but I know this lifestyle as well as rehabilitation sport 2x a week (what my doctor prescribed) will lead me to that goal. :)

^^Having said that, don't get me wrong, I still have pains, sometimes agonising pains, especially in my legs (from my thighs down) and in my back and I worry because of it. I still have yet to contact the reha-sport centre. The one that looks the best to me is women-only, which I find good. I must call today. But back to my worries due to my pain, which causes me to walk very slowly and sometimes like a penguin, my boyfriend wonders if the pain is coming from my bone density coming back.

^^Does anyone know if my boyfriend's guess is right or if my pain means something else?

I want to stay positive, bring my bone density back, and eventually right a book about how HCRV saved me from osteoporosis. Nevertheless I can't help but worry due to my pain and I'm annoyed that ripening can take forever by my fruits as well as the fact that not all fruits taste optimal in the winter and I do my best to eat 3000+ calories, but eat no less than 2700. I'd give anything to eat at least 4000 calories...

yes i saw this data on the company that sells the bellicon trampoline. It is a mini trampoline. I got one and I love it. It really helps me to exercise indoors and real fun to do.

Calorie restriction sure aint a good thing. I had a sheep down the road from me that is really skinny. Its in calorie restriction mode and suffering. I cut the fence to another section on the property that has fruit trees and uncut grass. Now 2 weeks later the sheep has gained a bit and has less boney protrusions. Its manner is less neurotic too. The farmer hasnt noticed the cut fence as its a bit hidden by ferns.

Never thought my cable cutters for my bicycle would come in handy from a nutritional perspective. ;)

I don't restrict my calories and never will, as I learned my lesson after being anorexic.

My still low bone density comes from my previous life with 11 years of anorexia/calorie restriction.

Pardon the fact that I can't always read between the lines without someone telling me what exactly they mean. But are you recommending cycling?

sunshine is also important.

thanks you seem important too

I am aware of that. It's not always available here and I'm restricted from that through my apprenticeship, which I meanwhile hate. But after the final exams, I'm never going to have anything to do with that learned job again. I found another way for me, which could also allow me more access to the great outdoors. :)

^^Hihihi, Sunshine! XD You're both important. :)

Any type of weightbearing exercise is very helpful as well.  Running, jumping, weights/bodyweight  are all good examples of this.  Biking and swimming are not weight bearing.  Good luck, there is a lot of positive science out there!:)

I'm not able to run without hurting myself. :(

Did you have your vitamin D levels checked?  I also have a bit of low bone density...(just had an appointment).  The doctor checked me bacause I was having terrible pains in my legs, hips and back too.  I told them I was vegan and that gave her enough info to give me a vitamin d test.   I'm actually better than "normal" at my age for bone density...and my vitamin D was LOW.   I started taking vitamin D (10,000 a day) and getting out in the sun (now that it's back) and within a week 80% of my pain is gone.   I'm 56 and feeling fantastic!

The funny thing is ...I was taking the vitamin D before I had the appointment...about 2 weeks prior...and my levels came out to 28....so it's pretty obvious to me that I was SEVERELY deficient in vitamin D...and now I am wiser for the experience....best to you!

Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, thanks Arrow!

I didn't get my vitamin D level checked yet. Which Vitamin D supplement do you use?

If you don't mind me asking, did you have an eating disorder in the past or was your bone density low for other reasons?

Thanks again for your reply. :)
