I'm 14 years old, and trying to convince my mother that not everything is healthy, even in moderation. I don't get it... I show her a picture of a raw vegan egg nog recipe. And I say, "much better than real egg nog right?"
She replies with, "so they say, everything can be healthy in moderation."
It irks me so much, because she won't even acknowledge the fact that butter is unhealthy...
Any tips?? :)
The oft-quoted platitude "everything in moderation" sounds nice but is ultimately false.
How about strychnine, asbestos, mercury, poison ivy, adultery, child abuse, and so on and so forth. Clearly there are numerous items, attitudes, and habits in life that should come with a zero tolerance policy if we're to be truly healthy individuals.
Now back to the matter at hand. Check out www.notmilk.com for appropriate anti-dairy ammo.
I don't have any good advice to deal with this but I will tell you my mom says this ALL the time. Everything in moderation...everything in moderation...Ok mom, whatever you say...haha.
My tip would be stop trying to convince her. Let her live her own life without having to conform to your beliefs. It would take a desire for a lifestyle change in her to change her beliefs. Keep doing your thing.
i hate when people say this!! my HEALTH teacher keeps saying everything in moderation is fine and about how if you eat yogurt and lucky charms thats a healthy snack. the worst part is he thought the lucky charms was the more unhealthy of the two!!! and when i went up to him and told him how crazy unhealthy dairy is he just kept on about the "moderation" crap. i cant believe he is supposed to be teaching us how to be healthy!
Have her watch earthlings
The way I think of it is that everything natural is healthy in moderation.
