Does anyone else here suffer from latex fruit allergy and if so what do you eat?
I get really severe allergic reactions if I eat Kiwis, bananas, papayas, cherimoyas, avocados, passion fruits, strawberries and a few others. I had previously been ok with mangoes and melons if I ate them just every few days rather than all the time but I just had a major allergy when I recently ate a mango so can't risk those again and am now getting short of breath when I eat melons so I guess I'll probably have to limit those from now on too.
On top of this I can't eat any nightshades or citrus and my digestion is way to weak to handle many greens or veggies. I also recently accidently confirmed the hard way that I have a nut allergy!!!
What can I eat? I love this diet and it has really transformed my health so there is no way I'm going cooked again but any ideas on fruits to eat would be a great help.
I eat a lot of dates, cucumbers, young coconuts when I can get them and occasionally apples (but these give me awful stomach aches so I can't eat that many).
Also, has anyone out grown/healed this allergy on this diet? It's getting hard to live on just fruit when you're allergic to nearly everything under the sun.
Yeah neither had I till I got it! Thanks for the help. That's cheered me up that people can recover from allergies on this diet.
I do try to keep positive about stuff and usually manage pretty well ;) My list is rather short though - only four fruits of which two aren't in season now (and won't be till next summer) and then cucumbers, and young coconuts occasionally. I'm grateful for what I have but often the food I get is really mouldy or there just isn't any and then I feel pretty sad.
Water fasting could be an option. I have done this for short periods unintentionally when I've had no food to eat anyway, but not in a proper way. Not sure I know anyone to supervise a fast though and I don't want to take any risks.
I'm intolerant to potatoes unfortunately and don't feel too good when I eat yams either. The only veggies I ever got on ok with since getting sick were cauliflower and cabbage but they're no good for calories so it would seem a shame to eat cooked just for variety.
Thanks for all the ideas and sorry for such a long and grumpy post! I'm sure I'll get over it all ;)
Have a good evening (morning?),
Cured all my allergies now :)
That's great Esperanza :) I was just about to comment saying I was/am (not sure anymore as i'm never in contact with it :) ) allergic to latex and did have a problem with bananas and avocados (though not mangoes strangely) at first but I now eat atleast 8 bananas daily (working my way up).
I couldn't eat avocados and bananas in the same day at first either, haha but now that's fine too :).
Glad to hear it's all sorted for you now!
That's great you can eat nanas and avo now too :)
Have a really good day,
What! Thats so awesome!! :D I hope to cure my pistachio and cashew allergy. I will die within 10 minutes if I eat them, however I got rid of my coconut and almond allergy so far! That's exciting :D
That's great that you've cured your coconut and almond allergies! Don't go experimenting with the others though - they sound really really nasty :( Hopefully you'll get rid of those allergies soon though as well :) Take care, Esperanza xxx
Wait, what!? This exists!? I'm allergic to latex! Maybe that's why my stomach gets so upset when I eat fruits and such. I never...geez! I feel really in the dark now. Wikipedia is calling me. I figure if it doesn't kill me however...I won't stop eating it. Like, tomatoes, my worst allergy and I LOVE them too much to let them go.
