Lately I've been feeling a bit disillusioned and just generally in a low mood. I wake up with good intensions to eat healthy but then I just feel low and eat animal products. I've done all my research on being vegan and I know this is how I want to live. How do you guys harden the frick up, like harley says, at times like this? What keeps you on the right track? My life has been so turbulent recently and I'm sort of lost!
I don't remember who said this, but basically, if you think about yourself it's hard. If you think about the victims (the animals) it's easy.
Animals are not food.
I'd been weaning myself off meat for a few years, but what really helped me was knowing that not only would eating a sausage biscuit make me feel disgusting, but eating 7 bananas in a smoothie, or a big bowl of raspberries, or 12 oranges would make me feel AMAZING, plus I got to eat so much more! The more fruit you eat, the worse animal products look/taste in comparison :)
KEEP LARGE QUANTITIES OF FRESH BANANAS AND OTHER AFFORDABLE FRUITS ON HAND AT ALL TIMES.
Taste is acquired. When you eat animal flesh regularly, that is what you crave. That is what "tastes" good.
When you eat raw fruits and vegetables for a few months your taste buds will crave fruits MORE THAN ANY STEAK OR BLOODY ANIMAL THAT YOU HAVE EVER EATEN BEFORE.
I remember the day like it was yesterday...I had been eating raw fruits and veggies for a few months, then for some strange reason went to Chipotle.....I HAVE NEVER FELT SUCH INTENSE PAIN IN MY ABDOMEN IT LEFT ME CRYING IN THE ALLEY BEHIND THE CHIPOTLE NEXT TO THE DUMPSTER CLUTCHING MY STOMACH.

Try to make the difference between hunger and craving. Maybe you feel low because you're not eating enough or because you are hungry. So If you don't eat enough fruit (carbs) then u crave fatty foods aka animalproducts or bread instead of bananas.
Also make sure you are drinking enough and sleeping enough. I feel bad when I don't sleep enough and puffy if I don't drink enough.
If you feel like eating animal products try buying them as a vegan product if you feel like you can't resist. This always helped me in the beginning. I used to have vegan cheese on my pizza and some nuggets and stuff. Today the only thing I buy is Tofu and make some veggieburgers myself.
Also today for me plantmilk tastes so great, that I would never consider to go back to dairy. Never ever again.
I always remind myself how I would feel if someone came to steal my mommys milk, if I had to suck on a cows nipple or kill another being. I simply don't do that and never would so no waste of money to pay someone else to make the dirty job. Rather for organic strawberries which I had for breakfast. Hope this helps you. Remind yourself that every day without animalproducts saves lifes! Every meal counts :-)
