30 Bananas a Day!

Did you all know that kangaroos are on track to extinction in Australia due to overkilling? Or that the kangaroo slaughter is the largest massacre of land-based animals on the planet? Or that the joeys are killed by decapitation, bashed to death against a truck or tree or die orphaned when they escape from starvation, predation and cold?

Here is a website that shows how unsustainable this killing by the kangaroo industry is:
http://www.stopkangarookilling.org

And this website explains what is wrong with eating kangaroo meat (for those who know others who eat it or feed it to their pets) http://www.nokangaroomeat.org

Please sign the petition calling for a moratorium of kangaroo killing at http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/kangaroo-extinction.html and click on the box to keep you informed if you so desire. The petition has only 7011 signatures and we need at least 10,000 so would you please spread far and wide? It's ok for people in other countries to sign, the more the better. Let's get the word out and stop this horrific slaughter!

We are also starting an international boycott campaign against Australian tourism so if you wish to be part of that please let me know also.

Thanks so much.

Menkit

So sad. Signed. Thanks.
Thanks signed and glad people are stepping up and trying to stop this.

Maybe wiping out a holes would be a much better thing to wipe out.
hi acey!

the effectiveness of online petitions can indeed be questioned in terms of whether they actually accomplish the intended goal.

however, there are certain benefits for sure:

1. politicians do pay attention to demographics even if they don't respond responsibly, so in the long-term they may well be influenced by the numbers

2. online petitions make those on the fence or those on the other side aware that they are being watched

3. many people who weren't aware of the particular issue become so as a result of such initiatives

so even if the petition doesn't kill the monster, it may well rally the troops and help prevent hideous progeny.

Acey,

Prad brought up some excellent points.

I think if they see signatures from all over the world it will make them think more for a minute.

That this ain't something they can sweep under the local rug.

People are now watching and they know it.

Hope they are having a hard time sleeping because of it.
signed. thanks for raising awareness about this menkit.

Hi Prad,
That is not my petition. This one is:
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/kangaroo-extinction.html
It's possible the other one you went to has been pulled down?
Thanks,
Menkit

i just signed it so it must still be active.

Hi Pradt

I agree with everything you said. This petition, once we reach 10,000, will be presented to the Senate for a house vote. If it fails I still think it has been a great success specifically for the reason you mention i.e. it has educated a heck of a lot of people who had no idea what was going on, and isn't that half the battle? Not only that but it may make them choose not to buy kangaroo meat or buy kangaroo shoes etc ....and even tell their friends. Overseas pressure I think will have more impact than national pressure (not that there is much here as aussies regard kangaroos as pests and in plague numbers (lies told often enough become facts).

Not only that but I am collecting the signatures of those who say they want to be kept informed so we can really mobilise for a global boycott of Australian tourism!

No point trying to sign more than once, it will be rejected by the Senate. I have to go through and delete each extra one, a tedious job when you have thousands!

Thanks everyone for signing, please help by getting the word out to all your friends and on other forums etc.
