I did a 21 day 'feast'. I drank a minimum of 2 quarts of green juice per day (one being a lemon ginger blast) and usually totaled in and around 4-5 quarts depending on how active I was. I drank plenty of water (about a quart in the morning after waking up).
I know this is not recommended but it has helped me a lot. I initially lost about 18 lbs. on raw (fruit and veg only) but was killed by cravings (I'm a complete newb at this and have problems with weight and intermittent food compulsions / addictions). I then lost 30 on the 21 day juice feast (just finished that a week ago). I have been hitting the dates and bananas hard since (kinda craved them after all that time on juice). I am toying with the idea of doing a longer period juice feast (like maybe 60 days). I will let the experts chime in here... but for me, a guy who was getting close to 300 lbs. and I'm only about 6ft. 1... this has helped me lock in my mental focus on keeping raw and listening to my body. Now I'm almost under 250 so that's kind of motivation to do another prolonged juice diet. But the key this time for me is to really finish strong and avoid the sugary fruit juices after sunset. They are essential for energy throughout the day but I hear that you shouldn't drink too much sweet fruit juice at once as it will spike your sugar since you eliminate much of the fiber by juicing.
Thank you Joe for sharing your experience with me.
I was actually planning to fast on water but after 2 days I was completely exhausted and could not even think straight so I decided to switch to juice fast instead.(I'm fasting mostly for cleansing purpose before starting 2012 100% hcrv challenge). I've decided to drink only one kind of juice though - OJ. Today is a first day and I feel so light and so much energy, I'll see how it goes. The plan is 21 day on OJ alone.
Thank you MoonShine :)
I did a lot of water + juice fasts and feasts. In the last 15 month I did 1x 25 days juice feast, 1x 21 days (incl. a week water fast) and 2 times 2 weeks and 2 times ten days of juice feasting. On juices I drank 3-5 litres initially but later on I didn't feel the need to drink so much juice any more and in the end I probably drank 2-3 litres of juice per day.
During the fasts I had the common detox reactions like many people have but after going through them I could reach a point where I just felt great, and also my power and endurance in sports improved a lot (I measured this on the treadmill for example, I could easily jog 2-3kph faster and endure longer than before)
I made a video on day 14 of my last long 25day juice feast
(and another one later on day #20 if u like you can find it thru the other link as well but it hasn't got english subtitles)
As said I felt greatly improved at the end of my fasts. But, I didn't know about 80/10/10 then and I always thougth it would be good to restrict calories and that is when I guess I developed the cravings for high calorie cooked food and I gave in at some point. Only recently I try to eat A LOT to not get these cravings ;-)
Still I guess I would always do it again and I actually may do it soon but then in the refeeding I would watch out to refeed high carbs and enough calories that my body feels fine.
Thank you for sharing Ben. I appreciate it!
